Who would have known what started as a high school part-time job would turn into my lifelong passion and career. My start in the business was working for one of the pioneers of the New York bagel industry, Arthur Goldberg, at the Bagel Fair in Paramus, N.J. In 1989, using recipes that date to Brooklyn, NY circa 1946, I opened my own family business, Monroe Bagels & Deli in New York state. We now p

37 years of bagel shops has led us to hire over 2500 high school employees. For more than half of them we would be their very first job. Over this period there have been a handful that have worked through high school and then also through their college years. In New Hampshire we have one person that fits that description. Samantha came to us when she was only 14 years old. She was very quiet and it took a little bit for us to get her comfortable in our shop. Once she got there, she became one of the greatest employees in our history and she would spend nearly 8 years with us. She’s one of the rare people that could work our fast-paced flat top grill while only 17 years old. I used to refer to her as our Silent Assassin as she would make very little noise and do incredible amounts of work. Last night Sue and I were honored to attend her wedding to a wonderful man Michael. We both wept the moment we saw her in her beautiful wedding gown. It is so very special for us to attend these weddings, especially when we know someone since they were 14 and now to see them in adulthood. Sam and Michael, we wish you many years of health, love, luck and happiness. Samantha will always hold a special place in the history books of Big Dave’s and we are proud to call you family.

We opened Monroe Bagels & Deli in 1989 in the Hudson Valley of New York. For 18 plus years we served a loyal following, made a few friends and learned lessons which I believe benefit Big Dave’s today. For these reasons it is always special to see New York customers in our New Hampshire shop. Thanks Sharon & Jerry for your visit today. We always hold our years spent and the friends we made there near to our hearts 😀

Incredibly proud of our staff’s efforts , from our bakers to our grill cooks to our customer care counter people. They work beautifully together as a TEAM. Great things happen here because of their efforts and cooperation with each other. We will be introducing all of you to our crew in the weeks to come with some one on one interviews 😀
