No wonder we have more dogs than children. although Massachusetts has one of the lowest rates of dog ownership at 49% it still beats out the 27% of households with children under the age of 18. Maybe because dogs don't roll their eyes at you and tell you you're cheugy.

You may be hearing rumblings from politicians about doing away with Social Security. How it is an entitlement that the government is paying for. Fact is Social Security is self-funding from employee and employer payments. It seems this may be that they are testing the waters to raid Social Security. It's possible they are saying this because the government owes a great deal of $$ to the Social Security trust fund - three trillion dollars.
When Social Security receives money via taxes and interest, what isn't paid out in benefits goes into the Social Security trust funds. That surplus is invested in standard Treasury bonds and flows into the US Treasury's general fund as LOANS that help pay for ongoing government programs and expenses. But the bonds pay annual interest and must be repaid on demand. The trust's reserve for retirees grew to $2.8 trillion by the end of 2020.
Congress cannot raid the Social Security trust funds.
No one, not even the White House or Congress, can take cash from the program. But their hope may be that by eliminating social security, the government will be absolved from paying back the three trillion owed. Bear that in mind when you exercise your right to vote. Your future financial security is at stake.
