Let’s wish a very Happy Birthday to my husband, best friend, and my biggest supporter and cheerleader. This man has stood in my corner with every crazy business idea since day one of starting Grace Through Fire Mercantile. He has built anything I’ve needed, and gone on many supply runs and never complains.

So, let’s make this man feel extra special and all wish him the Happiest Birthday!

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to run a time based business and be a mom at the same time? A little glimpse into our life for your Friday late night…

Trying to proof your sourdough while getting your 21month old to bed is a whole lot of fingers crossed and hoping he goes to sleep quick enough that you don’t over proof the dough! How do you think that went tonight after mom has been prepping all week and snuggles have been limited? I guess we will find out in the morning when I bake these fresh loaves! After a nearly 2 hour bedtime, I just hope everything will turn out. That’s the brutal honesty of our life some days.

Sometimes we forget small businesses have a family too. We aren’t a room of workers getting paid by the hour to do a job. It’s a mom or dad mixing and baking around life, around a toddlers schedule- a medically complex one at that, around trying to move things all over because I’m working out of a small piece of my kitchen. It’s well more than 40 hours a week working, and in many cases, far less pay too. Even though some, including myself, will pick this career path over and over again, it’s not easy and is impossible with your support.

I try to make light of what life can look like for many of us in hopes that it reminds you why shopping local is so important. When you support a small business, you’re supporting a family, a neighbor, a friend. So, tomorrow, make plans to come out and shop all the farm stands in the farm crawl. On top of that, make plans to stop in at the Dandridge Farmers Market too! There are some great vendors there to support as well.

Looking for a map of the Farm Stand Crawl? There are several places with printed maps, but especially if you’re coming from Newport side, you can swing by and snap a picture before the event starts.

I’ll have maps printed to pick up when you shop Friday and Saturday.

We are in a unique place on the map, we can be the end or the beginning depending how you look at it. So you’re either starting strong or saving the best for last! (Top map, top corner, you’ll see us circled)

Can’t wait to see everyone stop by Friday and Saturday.
