Last week Bri and I stopped in to try it out. What can I say? It’s an awesome addition to the community! The decorations are adorable, there’s a cute hangout room with multiple selfie walls, a children’s play area, awesome food, and the owner is super nice! We initially went in thinking it would be a snack. But the portions are great and it ended up being a meal! The menu gives you a lot of options for sweet, spicy, and savory. If you’ve visited them at their old location, go check out what they’ve done with their new place! If you’ve never been, go give them a try! If you are curious about location, hours, or menu, give them a follow!

With the new Starbucks in town, I just wanted to remind everyone that Newman also has 2 OTHER coffee shops. Coffee shops that are family owned and right from our community. Now if you genuinely prefer the taste of Starbucks drinks, then okay, I understand it. But if you are just going because it’s “Starbucks” then I don’t understand it. The follow 2 pictures were purchased this week. The Starbucks was from Turlock. I got a venti iced chai, with vanilla cold foam and a cheese danish. I paid $12.56. I went to Joe’s, got a large, iced pumpkin chai with pumpkin cold foam and a pastry and paid $7.20. This post is not meant to convince you to like one more than the other. It’s just a reminder that Newman was built off of hard working families who provided services/products to those within the community. Not corporations who make millions a year. The same enthusiasm you walk into these family owned businesses with to ask for donations, should be the same enthusiasm you put into supporting them.

I’m not sure when you last had a massage, but if it has been a while or you’ve been thinking about getting one, you absolutely have to give .with.jen.massage a try! No need to leave town! She’s located right here in town on Fresno St and offers a variety of services. I have went twice and Bri just had her first visit. Bri said “it was the best massage I’ve ever had.” Jen makes you feel really comfortable and is very attentive to any needs you may have. Another little gem right here in town ran by a community member!

Tax season can be stressful for a lot of people. But, I have found that when you have a good tax person, that helps ease the stress. I have to say, Joanne at J Hearts Financial is GREAT! For the last 2 years we have filed taxes with her for both person and business. She is easy to work with, is willing to answer questions, AND gets you in for an appointment! J Hearts Financial has been serving Newman for over 15 years! So if you are in the market for a new tax preparer or are interested in some bookkeeping services, give Joanne a call. Last night Bri and I attended play Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This was my first time attending a NCLUSD play, and let me tell you, it didn’t disappoint. These kids are talented! I am a huge fan of W***y Wonka and the 3 variations of movies, so I was super excited to see it live! The kids knocked it out of the park. The decoration, the snack bar, the servers, and obviously the actors all did fantastic! The ticket prices were extremely reasonable, and it was awesome to see the middle school stage being utilized. If you have not seen a play from NCLUSD musical theater, put it on your list. Support local, support the youth, and support the arts.

This place is definitely becoming a local favorite! Joe’s Coffee Shop is located smack dab in the middle of downtown across the street from the plaza. The coffee shop has a warm country feel to it (much like our little town). When you stop in it is not uncommon to see familiar faces such as the owner Pattie Bettencourt (local business owner and active in the community)or your regular barista Bekka! Joe’s has expanded their menu to include new flavors and new food. Give them a follow/like to stay up to date on shop hours, deals, or events!

This is a great loss to our community. Bob McConnell has been a staple within our community for many many years. He was not only the founder of TOSCA (a scholarship program), but was involved in numerous other groups such as Rotary and his church. This is a time to come together as a community in honor of Bob, as we mourn his passing. Bob’s community involvement, engagement, and dedication can serve as an example to us all.

I LOVE that our Newman community has hidden gems like these. The first picture is a book donation/pick up. Want to clear up some bookshelf space, bring your books here. Looking for a new book to start, come check out what’s inside. This book drop off/pick up is located just south of the Police Department. There is a nice little plaque dedicating the mini library to fallen Officer Singh. Second picture is a local food pantry. You can drop non perishable foods off, or pick something up if you are in need. This box is located Canyon Brook Ln.

When our boy passed away unexpectedly in December of 2022, we were at a loss. Team members from local agencies came together and organized a beautiful procession to honor Bravo. Bri reached out to to inquire about pricing for photographs during the multiagency event. Mikaela came out, brought a second photographer, made sure any photographs we wanted were taken (as well as candid pictures) made edits, and to top it off, insisted on donating her time and effort in honor of Bravo. This kind and thoughtful gesture has stuck with us over the years. Not only do we encourage others to contact when looking for a photographer, but that is our first stop as well. With the big 3-0 coming up, Bri and I went and took photos. Let’s just say, Mikaela did her thing. Beautiful pictures and a fun time. Follow her instagram, take a look at her work, and I guarantee you will be looking to schedule a session!
