Paul Bunyan Encampment

Paul Bunyan Encampment Join fellow Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Youth groups for a weekend of fun, games, and friendly competition. How many award ribbons will your group win?

Grab your troop, assemble your leaders, and join us at our annual Paul Bunyan Encampment! Paul Bunyan is open to Girl Scout troops, Boy Scout troops, and Venture Scout troops. It's a weekend of fun, games, competition, and outdoor cooking. You can choose to be really involved or completely laid back. Just keep in mind that the weekend will be whatever you make of it. Come to camp with a good theme

in mind. Decorate a themed gateway to your campsite, dress to match your theme, submit themes meals into the cooking competition (leaders, we have a special baking competition just for you!). Be as creative as you can be! Bonus points for keeping with your troop's theme all weekend! (That's right - we're watching. At the end of the weekend, prizes will be awarded in various categories. Some are more serious while others are completely silly and spontaneous). Each troop is asked to host a 30 minute activity (it can either match your theme or just simply be something fun). Scouts spend a good portion of Saturday playing around at all of the activities. Saturday night is always a blast when our DJ comes in to host a dance party. Dance like nobody's watching! If you've joined us before, welcome back! If you're new and considering camping with us for the first time, check out the photo section for a glimpse of last year's encampment.

Calling all past Paul Bunyaners... The current camp director (Donuts) at Camp Sacy is running a family camping weekend April 24-26. It's followed by a craft fair that Sunday from 9am - 3pm. It tugs at my heartstrings that this used to be our Paul Bunyan weekend. The family camping is open to everyone from Daisies up through adults. Bug and Blaze will be there for old times sake. If anyone out there would like to register and come play with us, you can sign up here: https://www.gscsnj.org/en/sf-events-repository/2026/family-camping-weekend-at-camp-sacajawea-04-24-26-26.html

Hello Fellow Paul Bunyaners!

Overwhelmingly, you folks have chosen to postpone PB 2020 and we are 100% committed to making that happen.

At this time, we do not have a sense of when the event can take place, but our hope is May or June. We will continue to communicate as we know more.

Thank you for your understanding and go wash your hands!!!

Hello fellow Paul Bunyaners! This year sure is an adventure, but we’re glad you’re all still with us. Let’s get started with some fun, shall we? The weekend is all about competitions anyway, so let’s kick off Paul Bunyan 2020 with a pre-camp competition. As usual, this competition is for the scouts, and must be completed by the scouts without leader intervention. How would you like to WIN A FREE CAMPER REGISTRATION? Well, all you have to do to be entered to win is answer one question: What does Paul Bunyan mean to you?

Be as serious or creative as you’d like. Write an essay, take a photo, show us a painting, send us your dance, etc. Scouts, submit your entries in the comment section below, or attach it in an email to [email protected]. Leaders, if your scouts don’t have internet access, please help them out (yes, now you may intervene). Submit your entries by midnight on Friday, March 20th, and stay tuned to see if you might be the winner!

Hey guys, Blaze here. (technologically challenged Blaze. Bear with me). I have responses from 4 groups (92207, 66225, 66086/66223, and 63232). Is anyone else planning to attend this year, the weekend of April 24-26)? I want to make sure I'm not missing anyone so we book the appropriate amount of units...

Hello Fellow Paul Bunyaners!

Thanks for your patience while we scout (lol) out a new location to hold Paul Bunyan 2020.

We're happy to report that Camp Roosevelt, a Boy Scout camp about 30 minutes away from Sacy, seems to be the ticket.

Please check your email inboxes with deets and let us know if you have any questions!

Hello Fellow Paul Bunyaners,

Council of the Girl Scouts of Southern and Central New Jersey has just informed us that they are cancelling our Paul Bunyan weekend this year, which was booked and set to run April 24 – 26. They refuse to host the Boy Scouts in their campground, citing the Boy Scouts’ decision earlier this year to start accepting girls into their ranks. They are doubling down on their new brand alignment which emphasizes girls-only activities, no exceptions. Blaze and I were brought on as a Special Interest Group last year specifically so that we could run Paul Bunyan independent of GSUSA and now they are not honoring that. We even offered to pay for the campground outright, but they don't want to be associated with us at all. We were completely blindsided by this decision. We did not know until this week and we are furious.

I've email you all the full correspondence between us and Council. I've also sent a write-up that we may use to appeal to National. Please feel free to use any and all language.

We've been asked to help council run a different event that weekend - "Woodsy Women Competition" - and our answer is a firm and resounding NO. Paul Bunyan is special and we refuse to allow it to be replaced with an inferior product that absolutely will not serve our community in a way we deserve. We are determined to preserve its magic for generations to come.

We need your voices. The people responsible for this decision are:

Ginny Marino
Chief Executive [email protected]
(856) 795-1560 x301

Kimberly Bryson
Chief Operating Officer
856-795-1560 (not sure of her extension... bonus points to whoever can tell me what it is)

Please, write them. Call them. Leave voicemails. They are being completely unreasonable and not willing to compromise with us. They're only solution is for us to change the name and exclude the Boy Scouts. We have hope that your voices can make a difference.

In the meantime, we are looking for a different camp to host PB 2020. The show much go on! If you have any leads or ideas, please let us know.

Thank you,
Bug & Blaze
