Perfectly said 👏🏻
Let’s talk about “notice” vs. “availability!”
People often use the words “is that enough notice” when asking about placing an order. In fact, I’m pretty sure I use the word notice in my voicemail….but recording a new voicemail is pretty high on my “I dislike doing that list” and it’s not people’s primary mode of communication with me so I’ll probably avoid changing it for now 😜
I’m making this post to address that when you are ordering, it’s not about notice, it’s about availability. I’ve had people in the past ask me for an order and I respond with “I do not have availability for this until -a date two weeks from now-“ to which on occasion they’ve gotten angry-not recently- telling that it’s ridiculous that I would need that much time-blah, blah, blah. I don’t even bother to explain things at that point. (No I don’t need two weeks to make your order, I simply am booked for the next two weeks/do not have availability) One, they don’t want to actually hear the difference or for me to clarify; and two I no longer make time for people like that. ✌️
I can no longer accurately say “you need to place an order one week in advance”-there are SO many factors that play into how many orders I can fit into the week. For example, but not limited to- size of order, how many flavors I’m making that week, how detailed cookie orders are that week, and believe it or not-whether I WANT to fit in another order.
That last one is something I’ve only recently started giving myself grace for. For example the first week of October I had 6 weddings (of varying sizes) plus a whole lot of non wedding orders. So logically one would think I could pull off/fit in that much EVERY week. But I cannot. I can’t physically, or mentally take on that kind of load week in and week out. So while it may look like I can and will take every single order-I simply can’t. Nor do I want to do that to myself. Trust me, I have, still sometime do, but after 13 years I’m finally being more limited with my AVAILABILITY-and I’m getting older and more tired 😜
In other words-placing order WELL in advance is always advised if you want a better chance at open availability- but even then, it’s not always a guarantee (cookie availability is especially limited). And I still do my best to fit in as many orders as I can, help out when someone is in a bind, etc. when I can!
