Folar - Easter Bread - if you have a lot of leftover Folar or Easter bread, it makes an AMAZING FRENCH TOAST! Swipe for pictures and see recipe below. I had Folar from 2 weeks ago and although it was still soft and I could’ve toasted it, today the family asked for something different.
.
2 eggs
2/3 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp cinnamon
Pinch of salt
Butter for cooking
.
Whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon and salt in a bowl, transfer to pan sheet and place bread inside, let sit for just a bit on each side. Heat up a pan on low heat, allow to heat up well but very low and slow - put butter on pan, cook a few minutes on each side. Enjoy!

My doorbell rang and I was handed a package from Sweet Portugal Bakery, based in New Jersey …
It is a surprise Easter gift from them for me and my family!!
I don’t know what to say but Thank You so much… truly anytime I have spoken with them on past orders I have placed, they were just the sweetest… but this is beyond special.
My husband and I already sampled a small bite from each dessert… all delicious!!

Have been receiving messages regarding ordering Portuguese Sweetbread that can ship in the USA..
Unfortunately, not everyone lives near a Portuguese bakery, plus l have shared before where you can order.. but for those looking at Sweetbread with the cooked eggs on top… here’s another site that will also ship through out the USA …
But I recommend if you plan on ordering, please do it now. Sweet Portugal Bakery, is the bakery and the link below will take you to pre-order.
I know that Easter is getting closer by the number of messages I receive regarding how to bake Easter sweetbread.
So here’s my answer in regards to it all…
What I have to say first is that every nationality has their version of sweetbread… all made with different measurements but almost same ingredients… flour, yeast, sugar, butter, eggs, milk… some families like them fluffy and soft… almost cake like. Others like a more dense texture… others add lemon zest, vanilla extract or shots of brandy… So technically it’s all different… no matter where the person is from.
Most of the time the recipe you grew up eating was adapted within the family based on taste and texture preferences.. hence why there’s so many recipes for these type of breads…
I like to say that there’s no right or wrong sweetbread recipe… every family has their own take and tradition.
My suggestion always is
1…if you have your family recipe and your the only one that bakes it… Please share your recipe with your family. Write it down, have someone video you while your making it… teach them so that your family traditions continue.
Trust me when I say that from all the recipes that I get asked for… Sweetbread is my number one recipe.
And no matter if I share my family recipe… it might come close or not at all to your family recipe.
2… start testing out recipes now. Cut large recipes in half so that you can see how the dough works. Some recipes have a wetter, shaggy dough..others are not. If you’ve never worked with a yeasted dough… it’s great to start experimenting now.
In the meantime… if baking sweetbread is not for you then ordering one is fine. Trust me No one will judge…. The key is to celebrate the day with family and friends.

Oh my goodness! My grandmother was from The Azores, I grew up speaking Portuguese in California, and now live in Louisiana. I found this bakery on-line and just received a shipment of goodies! So yummy and brings back so many memories Patty Blanchard. Included in my shipment is a special Christmas treat for my oldest granddaughter who visited Lisbon a couple of years ago.
