Goooooood morning ?!? Anyone order these babies recently ? We can’t keep them in stock. When we first started to sell them no one would buy them “what’s a pie crust bite?!” , then we started including small samples of them in orders and now they are one of those #ifyouknowyouknow not so secret anymore menu items. I can’t bring them home because I’ll eat a whole bag without even noticing!! More about them below 🤩🤩
When we started producing our famous Pie Crust Cookies in large quantities we were left with a dilemma: What should we do with all the scraps of leftover pie crust?! While searching for ways to repurpose them Janie was struck by a memory of her Granny's kitchen. Granny Conly would carefully trim her pie then re-roll the trimmings, make a mixture of sugar, melted butter and a good dose of cinnamon, slather it on the pie crust, roll, cut and bake. Voila! These treats which she called "Grasshoppers" were fought over by all her grandchildren. Now to honor Janie's Granny we are making the same addictive treats and calling them Pie Crust Bites: Flakey and buttery pie crust rolled with cinnamon and sugar then baked to caramalized perfection. These Pie Crust Bites are truly a crowd pleaser, open a bag and they will be gone before you can even say Pie.
It’s been a long time since I’ve introduced myself! Hi I’m Janie! I’m a native New Yorker, born and raised in Manhattan (I’m told we’re rare, you can call me a unicorn!) I live with my fiancé, Christopher, and our dog, Bubbles. Bubs LOVES butter and Christopher LOVES cookies, so we are a perfect fit. I LOVE cheese, it’s my 3rd love, maybe someday I’ll invent another cheese cookie (I already have an apple cheddar pie crust cookie!) That’s me minutes after running my first Marathon, I’m glowing right?! Training for it and completing it with one of my BFFs is one of my top 3 proudest life achievements. The other two are starting my business, Janie’s, and getting sober after being homeless and generally off the radar (no ID, bank account or phone 😲). In a few months I will have 8 years sober. The past 8 years have been such a magical adventure, I am so grateful for my path (even the most awful and shameful parts of it). I started Janie’s when I was a few years sober. It organically manifested from practicing baking as a creative and meditative act of self care when I was trying to get sober. Fast forward a few years and you can find my Invention, pie crust cookies, at @wholefoods , @freshdirect and many other local stores! I am also a @foodnetwork #choppedsweets champion (still have to pinch myself when I saw that!!!). Starting a business from scratch in NYC has been such an adventure and so fulfilling but I couldn’t have done it alone! Along the way I’ve found amazing education, knowledge, mentorship and support from so many phenomenal organizations. I’ve tagged them all so if you too have business dreams reach out to them!
