A little babka update:
Beginning now, our original babka — newly named the Nutella Babka — will be available on Fridays only.
Our Dark Chocolate Babka will continue to be available every day.
Interesting how things evolved — check it out…
In 2013, I developed the chocolate babka for Breads Bakery.
When we opened Michaeli Bakery in 2019, I brought that same babka with me. From the beginning, it became one of the most popular items in the bakery, and for years, it was the babka people knew us for.
Then, almost a year ago, I developed something completely new: our Dark Chocolate Babka.
What happened next surprised me.
Customers didn’t just start choosing it more often — the Dark Chocolate Babka began outselling the original by a lot.
For a babka that has been a big part of my work for more than a decade, and such an important part of Michaeli since we opened, that’s pretty big.
So we decided to make the change accordingly.
The Dark Chocolate Babka is now our everyday babka, while the Nutella Babka will become a Friday special.
And a big thank you to our talented bakers. The Dark Chocolate Babka is not an easy one to make, and they make it happen beautifully every day.
