In the summer of 2011, in an effort to be healthier, I decided to do a strict cleanse which involved removing all sugar and flour. If you have ever attempted this in the past, you know that the initial adjustment can bring about strange “side effects.” Mine was a manifestation of craving – no, OBSESSING- over sugar. I soon found myself fantasizing about all the things that I would indulge in once
the fast was over. (Completely counter-productive to the purpose of the fast, but stay with me.) My weird obsession began to center around things I had enjoyed while growing up as Southern-Belle-in-Training. Seeing as my mother’s signature pound cake was out of reach, I decided on something easily accessible, and, if done just right, just as yummy. Enter the puffed rice treat. I loved puffed rice treats. So simple, but so complex! But my thoughts began to wander. How could I make this inaugural treat after my fast so amazing? Then it hit me: remix the seemingly regular treat with every other sweet that was on my growing list of cravings. And that’s how Munch came to be. I have worked overtime in my kitchen, trying to perfect these other-worldly concoctions. There are treats to evoke memories of childhood, treats for the more sophisticated palate, and treats to make one wonder, “How in the hell did she pull this off?” Either way, Munch is sure to satisfy whatever you’re looking for, one small bite at a time. Wanna munch?
