October marks the 6th anniversary of STOP FALSE POLICE REPORTING and we’re celebrating this significant milestone with gratitude and determination. Over the past 6 years, we’ve been dedicated to advocating for survivors of false police reporting and creating legislative initiatives to address this critical public safety issue. Inspired by the false reporting we experienced at Dorchester Towers, Anthony Dolci first established Stop False Police Reporting in 2020, shortly after his own wrongful arrests were dismissed. With the help of impacted individuals, volunteers, and supporters, we’re grateful for the support of our community and extend our deepest gratitude to our supporters, New York State legislators, partner organizations, and impacted individuals who have helped us reach this 6th milestone.
As we celebrate our 6th anniversary, we’re excited to announce that our organization is advancing three bill proposals to protect the rights of survivors of false police reporting. Two of our three policy reform initiatives—Bill Proposal #1, which has been introduced at the New York State legislative level, and Bill Proposal #3—were created by our Director and Founder, Anthony Dolci, and represent key components of our efforts to advance meaningful legislative reform:
1. STOP FALSE POLICE REPORTING: Establishes felony penalties for civilians and law enforcement officers who weaponize the criminal justice system through false reporting; creates an accountability database and post-dismissal transparency reports; and provides survivors a pathway to pursue remedies beyond standard statutes of limitations.
2. POLICE REPORTING POLICE MISCONDUCT: Requires law enforcement officers to report misconduct by fellow officers; directs DCJS to establish standardized reporting protocols; and creates a criminal offense for knowingly failing to report misconduct.
3. RE-ENTRY COMPENSATION FOR EXONEREES: Provides immediate financial, housing, and social support to exonerees during the years-long gap between release and resolution of state compensation claims, creating a safety net during re-entry.
We dedicate this to every single survivor of false police reporting who has been denied justice and accountability, has not been exonerated, or remains incarcerated for a crime they did not commit.
