Something very special to celebrate our tenth year in existence: our manager Liz is also a metalsmith, and made these breathtaking necklaces to sell in the shop inspired by our vintage 1960s strawberry + leaf wallpaper, with a tiny 9 for 9th Street. I have been wearing mine nonstop since the day I bought it and it feels so good to carry a little bit of the East Village with me always. Two chain lengths available, .925 sterling silver! Thank you so much Liz Samis.

~*BLOCK PARTY*~ on 9th Street tomorrow 9/19! In celebration of our 10th year on this block, we’ll have a tent and table outside along with all our neighbors from 11-5pm. Fall favorites like pumpkin maple whoopie pies and pecan tarts will be in the case. Lagusta has apple caramels and maple cream autumn leaves 🍂 We’ll have a super duper special debut of something incredible made by Liz, plus multiple golden tickets (also made by Liz!) hidden in some of 50 goodie bags given out FREE with purchase. I’m bringing truly beautiful aprons handmade by our neighbor HOMMAGE out of vintage tablecloths- their first visit to the EV. Should be a very nice day and we hope to see you there. -maresa

Let’s say you had to assemble a three piece macaron box and they all had to be kinda pink. Your options are red currant, rose, peaches and cream, strawberry milk, blackberry, and quince eucalyptus. What’s in your mac box?

Here’s a collection of my finest photography to let you know we’ll be closed for a few hours tomorrow (Wednesday August 19 2026) for a staff lunch and deep clean. You might see us in our tiny shoebox, all chatting about ways to make things work even more smoothly, you might see us on a ladder power washing the awning again, and then at 4pm we’ll unlock the door and welcome you in with open arms. See you soon. (Big huge thanks to our friends at The Shadow for putting an ad in their paper for us.) -maresa

Your friendly local sweets shop purveyors on a beautiful sunny day celebrating fifteen years of Lagusta's Luscious Chocolates as a brick-and-mortar shop in New Paltz the best way we know how — with a Sweet Maresa's cake!!

And on the second slide, something I’ve talked about in our newsletter but not here on social media yet — that during some very not beautiful very not sunny days this spring, we thought we would need to close our beloved East Village joint sugar shoebox.

May was our 10-year anniversary on East 9th St and as we crunched numbers until our heads were spinning, it seemed like a good milestone, the right time to pack it all in in exchange for a simpler life. We talked to our landlords and made a plan, we told our staff that they were our priority and our closing would be on their timeline. We told a few customers.

And then….we both started feeling SO HORRIBLE. I thought I would feel relief, but I felt like garbage. What were we doing? The schlep is annoying, the margins are so slim. But a vegan confectionery palace in the best neighborhood in the best city in the entire world?!? So what if it’s hard? It’s also a huge joy. Life is hard and at least we have the joy. We adore our staff, our customers, our street. We’re so proud of what we make.

We crunched numbers again. We talked more. Our lease is up in two years, and we decided to stick it out at least until then, and assuming our landlords agree to good lease terms, we’re hoping to stay in place. It’s really tough!! But we are so, so much tougher. We’re so proud to be a vegan business that is staying open. We’re so grateful to all of you for giving us ten beautiful years together.

We’re always here for your feedback on what you want to see us make, because we exist to make the best treats for you. ONWARD 🎉🎉🎉
