Yesterday was ‘Grandparents & Special Friends Day’ at Brooklyns school. To be honest, the whole thing sent me on a bit of a spiral when it was first put on the school calendar back in September.

Having lost both Grandparents before she was six, I felt a spotlight on our loss. But then I leaned into the ‘Special Friend’ part of the day. And who better to share this with than her Auntie Tonja.

There’s no real way to describe lifelong friendship. The people who have been in your corner, loved you through every phase of your life, rooted for you and shown up again and again and again.

Bestfriendship brings trust and respect, the safety of being not just seen but valued for being your true authentic self, it brings easy laughter and shared secrets and love. I can trace back so many benchmarks in my life to Tonja. We’ve been side by side, on very different paths, for 30 years now.

But the absolute best part of who Tonja is is how she shows up for my child. For birthdays, for recitals, for special moments, for hard times and celebrations, for remembering the little things and sharing the big ones….Brooklyn is growing up with that quiet confidence that comes knowing she has ‘her someone’ solidly in her corner. Soemone who believes in her and celebrates her and always has her back. Who shows up for her again, and again and again.

Its unwavering. And remarkable. And I’m so grateful. 💜

But just know it has everything to do with women supporting women, women trusting women, a random phone call, a new baby, a lot of laughs, great communication, integrity, openness, collaboration, consistency and honesty.

Same Girl, Same.

Next week marks 15 years since I launched Evelyns Kitchen, in my studio apartment, with no plan, no capital and no culinary background. Just vibes.

This road has been impossibly challenging. Owning and growing a small business is hard on every level. And literally the only reason I did it, I do it, and continue to push forward is that I love it.

It's my passion.

In every aspect of it, there is love.

And 15 years later, I still sometimes cannot believe I get to do this for a living.

I still cannot believe people pay me to cook for them.

I still feel blessed and grateful.

I have one of those crazy weeks coming up. My daughter starts 4th grade on Tuesday and we have back to back to back 14 hour days with events for Estee Lauder Companies, Moet Hennessy and Spring Studios.

I'll probably forget to make content celebrating our 15 years in business, and I'll have bouts of mom guilt for not being the mom around after school to make the start of school feel special. I'll be stressed and tired. I'll worry about logistics.

But today, over my early morning coffee, in my peaceful home that I bought for my daughter and me, I'm celebrating the 15 years of hard hard work put in. And celebrating this amazing business so many people have helped me build.

And I'm pretty fu***ng proud of myself.
