Chanie's Cupcakes & Cakes is a home based shop, founded in 2015 by Chantell Mitchell. I am a self taught cake artist. I started making cakes as a hobby when I got tired of store bought cakes for my kid's birthdays. I was asked to make a cake for a friend's birthday party and it just kind of took off from there. The goal of all the staff at Chanie's Cupcakes & Cakes is to create cakes and cupcakes

which are tasty, look amazing, and are a great addition to any event or celebration. As a result, a high percentage of my business is from repeat customers and referrals.

A few years ago, I traveled to New York to take a cake decorating class. I could tell the instructor didn’t expect much from me. Sometimes people make assumptions before you’ve even had a chance to show what you can do.

I’ve spent most of my life being underestimated, so it wasn’t anything new.

What they didn’t know was that I thrive in those situations. I put my head down, focused on my work, and when it was time to present my cake, the underdog came out on top. Not only did I nail the design, but I also received recognition for my work.

That experience taught me something I’ve seen over and over throughout my life: people may overlook you, doubt you, or underestimate you, but your work will always speak for itself.

I’ve never been the loudest in the room, but I’ve always been capable. And every now and then, it’s nice to look back and remember just how far I’ve come.

Underestimated. Not unqualified. 💯✨
