Memorial Day....
This is a day that is bittersweet for most of us veterans. On the one hand, it's a time to reflect on the heartache and pain from losing our brothers and sisters in arms. Countrymen, that have given the ultimate sacrifice for the rest of our freedoms and way of life. On the other hand, we get to remember and celebrate such amazing warriors that we had the honor of knowing while they blessed this earth. I do my absolute damnedest to focus on the latter. It can be tough to do sometimes, as so many things remind me of the amazing men that I had the honor to call brother. However, I know if it were me in their place, I would want everyone to celebrate and honor my life by appreciating and making the most of theirs. Take the time to enjoy yourself with good food, family and great memorable experiences- but remember why you have the ability to do so. There have been many who have laid their lives down to give us such opportunity. Take advantage of it- embrace and appreciate every second of it.
I've lost many brothers in the last 16 years. This photo taken in front of Saddams palace, I'm choosing to highlight and honor two of the greatest men I've had the pleasure of serving with. I'll never forget or take for granted the many encounters they had my back and made sure I made it home. I'm forever in their debt. RIP Glen "Bub" Doherty and Matt Mills. Until Valhalla gentlemen- love you both.
