Need it delivered? Order now
The season is changing at Forest of Eden.
The days are getting shorter. Nights are cooling down. Cucumbers are slowing, radishes and fall greens are moving back into the menu, and the farm is beginning to look different from one week to the next.
For anyone new here, the Forest of Eden Mobile Farmers Market is a preorder-based doorstep delivery route.
Greenville/Washington-area deliveries are Thursdays.
New Bern-area deliveries are Saturdays after New Bern Farmers Market.
There is no guaranteed delivery time. Most customers either prepay through PayPal or leave payment in a cooler outside so they do not have to wait around for us.
Delivery is $4, free on orders over $20, or free when five or more households in the same neighborhood order.
To order, email [email protected] with what you want, quantity, delivery address, and your best phone number.
Korean Crunch — $10 per pint THIS WEEK
Normally $12, and only a few jars remain.
Korean Crunch is savory, sweet, sour, and slightly spicy.
This is our mild baseline for spicy pickles. There is enough chile in the cucumber to make your mouth water and wake up your taste buds without overwhelming the meal. Get an actual piece of chile and the heat moves up a little, but never a lot.
Fish sauce ties the soy, vinegar, gochugaru, chile, ginger, and scallion together into one savory brine.
One of my favorite ways to serve it is alongside grilled or sauced meat and steamed rice as a jjangajji-style pickle side.
We will not be at New Bern Farmers Market this week, so the $10 price is for Mobile Market customers.
If any jars survive until October 17, tell me you saw the Korean Crunch Coupon email and I’ll honor the $10 price at NBFM too.
Mesclun — $4
Our delicate salad-bowl mix.
It includes green and red lettuces, green and red mustards, Asian greens, red kale, and spinach, with flavors ranging from mild to lightly spicy.
Summer Thrills & Frills — $4
A very different green.
Summer Thrills has more body and more mustardy, peppery character. It works as an arugula replacement, holds up better on burgers and sandwiches, and can go straight into a stir-fry or quick sauté.
Mesclun is the delicate salad bowl.
Summer Thrills is the sturdier, more versatile green.
Fig Flight Samplers — $4 — limited supply
We harvest our figs very soft on purpose.
That is when they develop their best sweetness, aroma, jammy texture, and cultivar-specific flavor.
If you prefer firmer figs, ask and I can try to harvest earlier for you, but there are no guarantees because ripening determines what is actually available.
Picolino Cucumbers — $4 per bag
Order early.
Production is slowing as the days get shorter and nights cool down.
Replacement plants are coming, but there is no guarantee they will reach meaningful production before the season catches them.
There is also no guarantee I will be able to fill every cucumber order.
French Breakfast Radishes — $4
Crisp, elongated red-and-white radishes with a fresh, relatively mild bite when harvested young.
Eat them raw, slice them into salads, serve them with butter and salt, roast them, or pickle them.
Spicy Sauté Greens — $4
These are young French Breakfast radish leaves harvested while still tender.
They are peppery, flavorful, and intended for a very fast high-heat sauté.
They are especially good mixed with Summer Thrills for more body.
And yes, the peppers are still here:
Shish*to Peppers — $4
Mostly mild and made for blistering, with the occasional hotter surprise.
Sweet Italian Frying Peppers — $4
Our sweetest pepper, with almost candy-like fruitiness.
Red Grilling Peppers — $4
No heat. Thick-walled, juicy, classic bell-pepper-type flavor.
Gochujang King Hybrid Peppers — $4
Our mild hot pepper, flavorful and slightly fruity with gentle heat.
Aji Amarillo Peppers — $4
Our medium hot pepper, bright and fruity with an important place in Peruvian cuisine.
Sugar Rush Peach Peppers — $4
Our hot pepper, combining tropical-fruity sweetness with serious heat.
Shish*to Roulette Artisan Pickles — $12 per pint
Think pepperoncini or banana peppers, but made with shish*tos.
Bright and tangy for burgers, sandwiches, pizza, grilled food, and charcuterie.
Most are mild.
Every once in a while, one isn’t.
Eden’s Ember Pickles — $12 per pint
Our hot garlic-dill pickle with Sugar Rush Peach.
It is intentionally a little salty so it can help season the burger, sandwich, or charcuterie board you put it on.
Kentucky Colonel Spearmint — $4
Soft, sweet spearmint for juleps, tea, lemonade, fruit, yogurt, and drinks.
Peppermint — $4
Stronger, cooler, and more menthol-forward.
Comfrey Leaves — preorder only
Use fresh leaves for traditional DIY comfrey salve or infused oil, chop-and-drop mulch, or homemade liquid fertilizer.
The larger farm story right now is simple:
Fall is coming.
Every week gives us less daylight. Cucumbers are slowing. Pepper production will eventually follow. Fig ripening gets more dependent on weather.
Meanwhile radishes and cool-season greens are taking over.
That is what eating from a farm is supposed to look like.
This week’s partner spotlights:
Jams & Jellies R Us — Onion Garlic Spread, 4 oz — $8
Harvestlight Gardens — Garlic Infused EVOO, 8.5 fl oz — $25, or any two Harvestlight bottles for $48
Roll & Reverence — Garlic Rosemary Parmesan Sourdough — $18
Dale’s Honey Biz — 1-lb Wildflower Honey — $17
Partner products are ordered one week ahead.
Our second weekly flyer now shows the complete partner menu so you can see everything available through all four local businesses.
Forest of Eden is Beyond Organic — no sprays, no pesticides, not even the organic ones. Just wood chips, compost, and lots of love.
