Dear Friends, Customers, Supporters:
The only constant is change! Over the course of 14 years, Calla Lily Crepes has grown from a glimmer in the eyes of a young couple with a baby (now a big 14 year old), passionate about yummy, organic food, faithfully preparing and serving some of the best event and street food ever in Nevada and Placer counties, to taking over Elevensies in 2012 and becoming famous for late night food in Nevada City (open until 2:30 am Fri & Sat nights!!) - "saving lives, one crepe at a time" we always liked to say, to finally, culminating in a sweet little brick & mortar spot opening at 214 Broad Street in Nevada City in December of 2019!
~ Two tents to two fourteen ~
It has been a path of love, sweat, tears and laughter. We are a success story and are an example of persistence and endurance and now it is time to fulfill some new dreams. That guy on the left, Darren Engstrom walked through fire keeping Calla Lily Crepes going all these years, well done Darren!! Some of you may know, Darren struggled with Lyme disease for a few years prior to diagnosis in 2012, as he began the 2nd chapter of Calla Lily Crepes in the tent at the top of Broad. It was a huge struggle, but he held it together and found a path of healing, even amidst the challenges of growing a business. It was thanks to the success of the business that he was able to give himself the care he needed. After getting better he pursued a masters degree in Functional Medicine and Nutrition which he earned in 2019. His next step is to write his Lyme story to share with the world in the hope that it will give hope and help to others struggling with Lyme.
Calla Lily Crepes was made wonderful by all the fabulous people that flocked to enjoy our crepes, the many real life human beings that showed up to be employees, taking on the fun and sometimes intimidating task of learning to spin and endure all sorts of weather at the booth. Man, those were the days. The tent. Mystical, magical tent.
