Before all the trendy pastries and the new favorites, there was pan de sal. 🤎

In honor of Filipino American History Month, we’re celebrating one of the simplest and most meaningful parts of Filipino food culture.

A staple in Filipino homes for generations, pan de sal is more than just bread. It’s part of your family’s morning routine, filled with butter and sugar, sometimes dipped in a cup of Folgers that was mostly coffee mate.

It’s who we were, who we are, and the heart of what we do. Every batch carries on a tradition that connects generations, brings people together, and reminds us that sometimes, simple is better.

We are pleased to recognize Mark Philip Valerio Santos as one of the 100 Global Entrepreneurs for his contributions to business leadership, community engagement, and the continued global presence of Filipino entrepreneurship in the United States. As a Filipino American entrepreneur based in San Diego, he represents the next generation of leadership built on heritage, innovation, and community impact.

Mark Philip Valerio Santos Mark is the third-generation owner and operator of Valerio’s Bakeshop, the family-owned bakery established by his grandparents, Victor and Milagros Valerio. Under his leadership, the company has continued to grow while preserving the traditions and Filipino identity that shaped the brand through generations.

Valerio’s Bakeshop received national recognition after winning at the 2025 World Bread Awards USA during IBIE Las Vegas, one of the world’s largest baking expos. Beyond the family business, Mark also serves as a Board Director for the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, National City Chamber of Commerce.
