We have back this Saturday from 12-Sell Out serving up these amazing sushi sandwiches. Mike was out by 2 last time so come early.

Garlic ginger glazed pork belly with pickled daikon, spicy crab salad, and hickory smoke infused marinated tuna.

Hey y’all! This Saturday we have a very special pop-up hosted by one of our very own, Come on out from 11 -4 or until he sells out to try some amazing Sushi Sandwiches, House-made Miso Soup and Hijiki Salad. Sandwiches will be limited so come early and support one of our favorites dudes at the shop!

Some days we close early and some days we do not open at all - why? Because we only use fresh tuna and salmon here at Kawai and when we sell out, we’re out! Luckily today we got this gorgeous big boy in, sliced up this morning. Come by for the freshest poke bowl in Nashville.

Wow!!! Thank you so much Nashville!!! We are beyond humbled and grateful for the incredible turnout to Mama Lyalya’s Pop-Up for Ukraine on Saturday. Y’all turned up in masses and helped us raise over $8000 to help Ukraine!!! Every cent donated is going straight to Razom and World Central Kitchen.

Thank you so much for waiting in long lines, for being so patient with the food and for selling us out of just about everything! We truly hope you enjoyed our little taste of home and had a great time meeting my family. We loved seeing everyones faces and connecting with so many warm and generous hearts.

While we don’t have any immediate plans for another pop-up (Mama Lyalya is pretty tired after frying up 200 pieroshki), Leningrad Pop-Up is hosting a Cook for Ukraine Fundraiser this Saturday from 9 am - 12 pm at Richland Park Farmer’s Market. I’ll be there cooking something up and y’all should come out as well!

Thank you to Aleksey’s Market, Leningrad Pop-Up, Restaurant Depot, Poppy & Peep, Dynamark, Joyland and GMIC for helping us make this happen. Thank you to my wonderful family, my incredible staff at Kawai and all of my friends who all donated their time to pull this off. Most importantly thank y’all once again for caring about a cause that is so near and dear to us. We love you Nashville!!!

Hey y’all,

Just a friendly reminder about our Benefit for Ukraine tomorrow from 11 am - 4 pm. Come on out to try some delicious food, freshly made my mom, my sister and I and learn a bit about our culture. Since we’ve last posted we’ve partnered up with Aleksey’s Deli, Leningrad Pop-Up and Poppy & Peep, all coming together to help Ukraine. Mama Lyalya hopes to see y’all out tomorrow!!!

PS - Kawai will be closed Friday Mar. 18 to prep for the event. We will be back to regularly scheduled poké Monday!

It’s a family effort to support refugees

Thirty-three years ago, my parents made the decision to pack up their few belongings and move their young family from Ukraine to the US. Escaping the corruption and oppression of the USSR, my parents were fortunate enough to build a better life for us. Now we all watch in horror as millions of innocent people are driven from their homes while a brutal invasion continues on.

Like so many of you, we search for ways to help those affected. This Saturday, my family is coming together to bring an Eastern European Kitchen and Market to Nashville with 100% of proceeds benefitting the people of Ukraine. Come on out and try the foods we grew up with, cooked with love by my mother, my sister and myself. Learn a little about our culture, grab some goods and help out people in desperate need.

So this Saturday from 11 am - 4 pm, come by 901 Woodland St. #105 at Kawai Poke for “Mama Lyalya’s Kitchen & Market.” We’ll be grilling shashliki on the patio while Mama Lyalya fries up piersohki and dishes out borscht inside. Provisions graciously donated by our friends at Grand Market International will be on sale as well. We may even have a few more surprises up our sleeves.

Empty Nets: Unfortunately supply chain issues continue to effect our fresh tuna deliveries. We will be closed Monday Jan. 10. We should be back regular hours tomorrow, slicing up fresh fish and slinging bowls to y’all. Thanks for you patience!
