Some thoughts from Elizabeth and Paw Mikkelsen,
Our beloved SouthWest Florida has been devastated by hurricane Ian. Naples has been our home since 2000. We started our business and raised our three children here. Elizabeth was on the opening team for the Ritz Carlton on the beach in 1985. So our roots here run deep.
For the most part, we have seen the best of humanity. Neighbors helping neighbors, men and women from across the country have dropped everything in their own towns to come and help us here in Florida.
For those of us who were slightly impacted or not at all, we all need to rally to help those who have lost so much, and in many cases everything.
Here in the shop we have heard stories of gratitude combined with guilt from those barely impacted. We sadly have heard just as many stories from those severely impacted and have shed tears with so many.
For those who have tried to take advantage of others misfortune or complained that it is taking too long for debris to be picked up, etc. shame on you. Instead, you should find a lineman, police officer, or firefighter to thank. Find somewhere to volunteer and pitch in. So many people still need help.
Collectively we have all lost so much. So many of our go to’s when friends and family visit were literally washed away. The historical, the classics, the whimsical. Some will be able to rebuild, many will not.
So many small businesses while still standing and operating are holding on by a thread. Small businesses are still recovering from the catastrophic losses of business due to Covid. Despite our amazing Governor keeping us open here in the free state of Florida.
Everyone needs to work together, help each other, shop local, and stay strong. We have lost so much of our charm to Ian. Let's not add to that by losing the heart of our community, our year round residents and our small businesses. The small locally owned businesses need our help now more than ever, along with so many neighbors and friends. We must all join forces, and remember to welcome back our seasonal residents (they have suffered losses as well) and visitors, as they contribute to our community as well and will be instrumental in helping our economy recover.

The popular Disney movie Coco showed us the power of family, tradition, and good food. It’s a movie focused on the Day of the Dead and it’s import role it plays in traditional Latin culture.

We’re ok. We managed to get back power to the shop and have been busy cranking away to feed our first responders, linemen, and local law enforcement. We can’t thank you enough for your continuous efforts during these difficult times for so many affected. ❤️
