Let's chat, shall we?
Custom cakes...
A Custom cake will take me anywhere from 3 to 7 days depending on if I'm making fondant figurines, paper toppers, compotes, fillings, infusing the cake sponge or ordering stuff on Amazon. Keep in mind I work a full time job NOT baking so this is done in the evenings in my home.
A Custom order is specifically for that person. It's your design and creation, I'm just the hands to help put your vision together!
With that being said, I can not sell your cake if you cancel last minute. I do not have a shop to put it in the window for sale. (Not yet anyway) All that time and money spent on it goes in the trash. Not that I've ever had to do that but just saying.
I have been very lenient lately, taking last minute orders and letting balances get paid at pickup and pick up times all over the place; but I have to set some boundaries as my kindness is getting taken for granted. Here are my policies and I am sticking to them from here on out.
- 2 week notice for Custom cake orders. A month if it's a wedding. You can always text me if you need a cake sooner than the 2 weeks but just know that I am considering that an urgent order and adding a rush fee of $25
- full balance due at the time of booking (no more can I pay you at pick up or even after a pick up or delivery)
- if the balance is not paid, cake is not made. Your order is not confirmed and booked.
- Quotes. Quotes will be a rough estimate only. The final quote will be given once all questions are answered
(Date, time, what size cake or for how many people, flavor, and a picture of the design) I don't charge a consultation fee so I must have all the information needed to give you that quote. I am no longer able to sit and talk to you about a cake for 45minutes and then the price by over your budget. Instead let the baker know your budget, guest count and inspiration pic of the cake up front.
- pick up time, by 10am on your cake date. No I will not allow pick ups later that afternoon or the night prior. I have a life too
- changes to your order or pick up day, it's OK as long as you give me 2 weeks notice on the change. Moving a cake from a Saturday to the prior Wednesday throws my schedule off especially when notice is given last minute. 🙃
I know these policies seem standard but you would be surprised...
I have had customers ask to pick up a cake at 11pm after working all day (I'm exhausted), cakes picked up by husband's saying wife will venmo and not get paid until 2 days later...it's just getting a little out of hand.
Hope everyone can respect my boundaries and continue loving my wonderful cakes and goodies. Trust me I love making them for you all and I don't want to stop.
Have a beautiful weekend
Love you all
