Before Jerry West became “The Logo,” he was just a kid from Cabin Creek who didn’t want to be too far from home.
When he first came to Morgantown to play at WVU, the pressure—and the distance—was too much. After his first week, he got on a bus and went back home.
His coach knew what he needed wasn’t just a team… it was family.
So Jerry came back—but this time, instead of moving into the dorms, he moved in with Aunt Anna Dinardi and Erlinda Dinardi, the sisters of our Grandma Julia. For his entire time at WVU, that house was home. They cared for him like family, and like any proper West Virginia household, that meant time around the table… and plenty of Julia’s fresh-baked pepperoni rolls.
That bond never left him. Years later, at the height of his career as the Lakers’ General Manager, Jerry left an international recruiting trip and flew the team’s private jet back to Morgantown to serve as a pallbearer at Aunt Anna’s funeral.
That’s what this place does.
It turns neighbors into family.
And food into something more.
For over 100 years, Chico Bakery has been part of stories like this—right here in Morgantown.
Feeding families, communities… and a few legends.
