Before you buy your next loaf of sourdough, let me share something most people don’t know…
Not all sourdough is created equal.
In fact, two loaves can look almost identical and have completely different ingredients, fermentation times, quality standards, and nutritional value.
So what should you look for when choosing a baker?
Ask questions!!!
How long is the dough fermented?
What type of flour is being used?
Where is the flour sourced?
Is it organic? Imported or domestic?
Is it made with commercial yeast or a true sourdough starter?
Are artificial colors, flavors, conditioners, or preservatives being used?
Is the baker licensed and insured?
What food safety standards do they follow?
How long have they been baking?
Can they consistently produce the same quality product week after week?
Most people never ask those questions. They simply compare prices.
But here’s the truth:
The cheapest loaf is rarely the cheapest loaf.
If lower-quality ingredients were used…
If fermentation was rushed…
If shortcuts were taken…
You’re not buying the same product.
You’re buying something different that simply happens to look similar.
At Stirred By God, I choose imported organic flour. I choose long fermentation. I choose no commercial yeast and no artificial dyes. I choose ingredients I would proudly serve to my own family.
Those choices cost more.
And I’m okay with that.
Because my goal has never been to make the cheapest loaf in town.
My goal has always been to make a loaf I’m proud to put my name on.
For years, I’ve invested in equipment, education, licensing, insurance, food safety, and refining my craft. I’ve spent thousands of hours learning what works and what doesn’t so my customers receive the best product I know how to make.
That’s why being voted Best Bakery two years in a row means so much to me.
Not because it’s an award. Because it represents trust.
So whether you buy from me or another baker, do yourself a favor:
Don’t just ask how much the loaf costs. Ask what went into making it. The answers may surprise you.
❤️
