Their instructions were specific, and I loved every single one of them.

Purple and white scrollwork on alternating tiers. Not just any purple, but a specific shade matched to a paint chip. Miniature figures of their two dogs at the base. And I would add their custom topper of the two of them (with the groom lifting his jacket to reveal a Kansas City Chiefs shirt) at delivery.

That topper got photographed more than the rings did.

This is exactly the kind of cake I built Plumeria to make. Not a template with your names added. Not a design pulled from a portfolio and adjusted slightly. Something that could only exist for these two people, at this wedding, on this day.

The conversation that produces a cake like this starts at the tasting — with whatever you bring in. A screenshot. A sentimental detail. An inside joke that seems too personal to put on a cake.

The cake cutting is a moment. The dessert table is an experience.

A lot of couples don't think about the full dessert picture until after they've already locked in their cake. But the guests still on the dance floor at 10pm are hungry — and a mini cupcake or lemon bar hits differently than a slice of cake they have to sit down for.

I build mini dessert buffets the same way I build every wedding cake — same kitchen, same pound cake base, same flavor logic. Everything works together because it all comes from the same place.

Every cake I design starts with a conversation — not just about the cake, but about the whole room.

The flowers. The venue. The colors your guests are going to walk into.

This sketch is called "Garden Romance" — baroque filigree scroll borders on each panel, buttercream roses climbing every tier, trailing greenery that feels like it grew there. It was designed around a specific color palette: blush, dusty rose, warm peach, and sage.

You don't need to have your florals finalized before you come in for a tasting. But if you can bring your florist's color palette — even just a photo of their proposal or an inspiration board — I can design the cake to live in the same world as everything else on your wedding day.

The earlier you come in, the more precisely I can make that happen.

These flowers took longer than the icing.

Every petal cut by hand. Shaped, dusted, and dried individually before a single one touched the cake. No molds. No pre-made anything. Just time, tools, and a very specific vision of what "finished" looks like.

At 30 feet across a reception space — which is roughly where most of your guests will see it from — this level of detail still reads. That's the part most couples don't think about until they're standing in the room.

What a wedding cake looks like at 8am.

Before it's on the table at your reception, it spent hours in this studio. The same hands that prepared the batter are the ones loading it into the van.

I bake, decorate, deliver, and set up 99% of every cake that leaves here. Not because I have to — because the alternative is handing your wedding cake to someone who doesn't know what it cost to make it.

Mid-reception, Tina grabbed her photographer by the arm.

"Wait. Take a picture of us with the cake."

After the family portraits, the first dance, the toasts — they circled back to the cake table. On purpose.

Four tiers, four completely different textures: gold fondant damask on the bottom, quilted fondant with metallic pearls on the third, ch*****ne gold airbrush over wafer paper on the second, and delicate sugar lace on top. A loose trail of deep red sugar roses and gold leaves drifted down the side.

The sugar roses matched the real ones in the vase right next to it exactly. That wasn't an accident — we built the whole design around what was going to be in that room.

At their tasting, Tina and Sean brought inspiration photos from cakes they'd loved in different styles — different bakers, different looks. We went through every element together and combined what they loved into something that was entirely theirs. That's how every Plumeria cake starts.

She told me at the start of our consultation: “I’m not really a cake person.”

Her guests ate every last crumb.

Sarah came to Plumeria after two disappointing tastings at other bakeries. She was ready to just order something simple and move on.

But her fiancé — who grew up on his grandmother’s homemade cakes — kept saying: “I feel like we should try one more place.”

So they came in.

Sarah tasted my Vanilla pound cake with strawberry filling first. Then Ch*****ne Orange. Then the Salted Caramel. Then our Chocolate — the cake that started my whole business.

Halfway through the third flavor, she set down her fork.

“Okay. I get it now. THIS is what wedding cake should taste like.”

Her coordinator texted me the day after the wedding:

“The cake was GONE. Every tier, every slice, completely devoured. Guests were asking if we had more. I’ve never seen that happen before.”

Let’s be real. If you’re not gonna serve cake to the guests, don’t eat it in front of them. Make a new tradition and take photos with whatever you’re serving. These are supposed to be the most important people in your life…treat them like it!

This is just IMO. I’ve only made over 700 wedding cakes, so what do I know? I just work here.

BTW, if the Churro Saber Ceremony is the new hot trend in weddings, I want all the credit. 😂
