Happy May Day Neighbors!

It’s May 1st, International Workers Day! Today we commemorate the 1886 general strike to demand the 8 hour work day, uplift current labor struggles here and around the world, and flex the power of organized labor and working people.

Worker-owned cooperatives, where workers make decisions and share profits, are in the lineage of this day and the labor movement as a whole. As a worker-owned cafe, we are proud to be connected to the global struggle for well-compensated, safe, meaningful, and dignified labor for ALL.

As our namesake holiday, we take special pride in celebrating with you today. So, once again, Happy May Day!!

I spy...your May Day bathroom tile!

Were you one of the neighborhood artists who painted a tile at our Block Party way back in October 2024? Our block party was a celebration to support the May Day Cafe Workers Cooperative to sustain May Day Cafe as a gathering place for our community. Many of you painted tiles at that party with the promise that one day they would be featured in the cafe as a physical testament to the many hands that make this cafe come alive. For the last 1.5 years these gorgeous hand painted tiles have been sitting, well to be honest, underneath the beds of one of the worker owners... just waiting for the right moment to find their place to shine. Well good news! We used our bathroom remodel as this opportunity! So come say hi and see if you can spot your contribution in this mosaic of community art.
