Yesterday, we sent off Butter Bakery Cafe with a countdown from 20 beautiful years. Owner Dan Swenson-Klatt thanked family and the talented staff that have helped keep this place running; the farmers, vendors, producers, creatives, and service workers who brought us the magic that made everything possible; and all of you, who taught us the meaning of being good neighbors, and what it means to be in community.

You will all be in our hearts, and we hope Butter will stay in your hearts as well. See you out in the world!

It’s time to celebrate 20 years of Butter and send this beloved neighborhood institution off in style! Today we say goodbye to Butter Bakery Café with the very last Butter Ball drop, promptly at 5 pm. Join us from 4 pm for hot cider and some final treats, to give Dan and the staff some big hugs, and count down to the end of 2025 (Stockholm time). To our regulars, neighbors, partners, and Butter fans: your support, smiling faces, and sweet notes have filled our cup these last few weeks. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

After 20 years of service to the Kingfield, Lyndale and southwest Minneapolis residents, Butter Bakery Cafe will close on December 31. As Daniel retires, so will Butter Bakery Cafe.

We want to thank Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative for working alongside us these past 13 years as our landlord. Their support, vision and commitment to the workforce training model inspired Butter Bakery Cafe to become a General Benefit Corporation and live more fully into its mission. We wish Beacon the best as it selects the next tenant of 3700 Nicollet and we hope you will welcome and support this next business with as much love as you have offered to us.

Dan and the staff also wish to extend our grateful thanks for the love and support provided by our community over these many years. A short outdoor farewell event on December 31 will include the annual dropping of our Butter-Ball at 5 pm sharp. This year it will also be an opportunity to say good bye to Butter and wish Daniel and the staff of Butter a bright future.

If you are holding Butter gift cards...do stop by and gift us with a final purchase. We'll do our best to keep up with production of all of your favorites until the end - but there may be some reductions as we run out of ingredients and product.
