I've resisted taking cake orders (I've done small cookie orders) since starting my chemotherapy treatments as they're very energy demanding, but when I saw Tami Rinehart Fleak looking for a baker, something just told me I had to do it, if she'd use me of course, which she did. :) Maybe I just needed to prove to myself that I still had it in me? Don't know. But I needed to do it. Ended up being a decorated cake and cookie order. Ended up having a therapeutically great time doing it, I'm happy with the results, and most importantly, Mrs. Fleak was happy with her order. To thank her for choosing and trusting me, I threw in a free loaf of brioche bread with her order. Happy to report that my first attempt making Crispy Oatmeal Cookies using my grandmother's recipe was a great success! They even won her thumbs-up seal of approval, and that's not easy to earn. Seeing as these cookies find their crisp biscuit roots in English baking, I felt a nice hot tea would go well with them. Of course the Trekker in me chose none other than Earl Grey. There are available for sale. $30.00/2-dozen if picked up locally. $45.00/2-dozen shipped within continental U.S.

I finally have it in my hands! My grandmother's recipe to her famous Crispy Oatmeal Cookies. She's had this since she first baked them around 65-years ago. We know none of us can make them like grandma, but I'll try to do them justice. She went ahead and told me 2 of her secrets that aren't listed on the steps and she's never shared with anyone. Should they go well, I'll add them to the menu of available items.
