Like every year, this is the time when I stop baking my regular treats to only bake my favorite sweet bread “Pan de Mu***os” and pay homage to one of my country‘s most beautiful traditions, “Dia de los Mu***os” 🌸💀🪦🌼

It gets back to the Aztecs, where families came together to honor and remember their ancestors through “ofrendas” and festivities that lasted for a whole month during the summer. When Spanish people came to the Americas they evangelized the local people by combining Christian traditions with those original to the Pre Hispanic cultures. The whole month of ofrendas was moved to November 1st and 2nd to coincide with All Saints Day and Day of the Dead in the Christian calendar.

The bread the pre hispanic used to make for this holiday out of amaranth, roasted corn and honey had the same fate and transformed into what we call “Pan de Muerto” now a days, a soft brioche bread made out of eggs and sprinkled with lots of sugar and butter. What’s not to like about that, right? 😋 And that name? Really? Yes, of course! It couldn’t be any other way, we eat it on Día de Mu***os! 😉🌼💀🌸

Hello again!! Soo glad to be back!

Our summer was a very happy one but also a super busy one with so many friends and family visiting that I really had no room for IG posting. Now that my kiddo is back to school and everything is back to normality I can share all the gorgeous things that came out from my kitchen this fabulous summer!

I missed you much!
