We launched the Kelly Family Kitchen in order to provide delicious and all natural products to people affected by food allergy. On January 10, 2011, our daughter Evelyn Virginia was diagnosed with a severe peanut and tree nut allergy. Quickly we learned the difficulties of dealing with a food allergy. Shopping at the grocery became an intimidating task. The thought of birthday parties and social g
atherings struck fear in us. With time we learned that we were not alone. Like others, we learned how to cope. We started making our own cakes, cupcakes, cookies and brownies to take to events so that our daughter was not missing out. We also found some allergy aware products that addressed our needs. The issue with these allergy aware products is that they addressed the eight major allergens (shellfish, fish, peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, wheat, and soy) that represent 90% of all food allergies. With our daughter only allergic to peanuts and tree nuts, we were sacrificing taste for safety and convenience. This is how we came up with the idea of the allergy aware Kelly Family Kitchen. It was clear that others families were is the same situation. We believed they would appreciate a product that dealt specifically with their allergy, or the allergies of a loved one, and that they would not have to sacrifice on taste. Our kitchen is a dedicated peanut free and tree nut free facility. We take all the available precautions to eliminate cross contamination. Peanuts and tree nuts are strictly prohibited on the premises. Each ingredient requires allergen disclosure from the suppliers, and they are requested to provide non-contamination certificates. And to further insure the safety of our product we utilize the latest testing methods to detect the presence of allergens.
