Welcome to Crust and Crumb Cottage Bakery!
I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Kristi, and I’m the baker behind this little cottage bakery where everything is made with love—and sourdough.
My journey with sourdough began during one of the darkest chapters of my life. A few years ago, I lost my mother unexpectedly, and the months that followed were filled with grief, pain and heartache. In the midst of that pain, something unexpected happened.
My father-in-law had recently won a 100+ year old sourdough starter in a benefit auction while in Canada. Not one to waste a thing, he soon had jars of sourdough discard taking over his kitchen counter. Curious and needing something to lift my spirit, I decided to take some off his hands and give sourdough a try.
What I found was more than just a hobby. Sourdough became my therapy—something comforting, grounding, and healing. I found peace in the rhythm of the process and joy in creating something nourishing from such humble beginnings. I couldn’t wait to get home each day to try something new.
Fast forward three years, and my passion for sourdough baking has grown into something I want to share with others. Crust and Crumb Cottage Bakery is my way of doing just that—offering handmade, heart-filled sourdough bakes to my community.
A very special thank you to my partner in all things, Micah, and to my incredible children, Krys, Savannah, Emma and Olive for being my biggest cheerleaders. A heartfelt thank you to John, whose gift of that magical sourdough starter began this whole journey. And to all my friends and family—thank you for being my faithful taste testers through the years. Your encouragement (and honest feedback!) helped shape every loaf and recipe I make today.
