Gingerbread House Arts & Crafts Show at Mentor UMC

As always, there is FREE admission and parking! Come shop the wonderful array of handmade gift items by local crafters, Attic Treasures, Bake Shoppe, Middlefield cheese, Rada Knives, and more. And don’t forget the food – dinner Friday evening and lunch on Saturday featuring homemade soups, chili, and pies. Interested in selling your handmade arts and crafts? Call (440) 255-3496

Another craft show year has come and gone and it was an amazing weekend!!

First, we would like to say a huge thank you to all of the crafters that brought in their beautiful handmade crafts.. To all of the shoppers that came out Friday and Saturday.. And to all of the volunteers that took time out of their week and weekend to lend a hand!

We would also like to thank Kim for putting so much time, effort, and organization into the show! You put on an amazing craft fair! Also, a big thank you to Mike for cleaning out all of the classrooms, setting up the tables, making sure everyone had everything they needed, and for the clean up after the show was over Saturday and getting the rooms back to where they needed to be for Sunday! And also to Pam, for putting on a great dinner Friday night and making such an amazing lunch for Saturday! You all are awesome!!

If it wasn't for ALL of you, this wouldn't be possible!

We hope you all enjoyed this year's Craft Show and we can't wait to see you all again next year!!

Who's excited??... Only 3 more days!!!!

Outside of the 75+ amazing crafters that will be featured at this years show, let me tell you about some of the other tables/rooms you will see:

Country Cupboard and Bake Shop - This is where you will find sweets and treats galore made by women in our UMW and church members. Get your fill of homemade confections, candies, pies, brownies, pumpkin rolls, and so much more!

Middle Field Cheese - Here you can sample the cheese before you buy it! You can choose from a selection of either Swiss, Cheddar, Muenster, Colby, and Farmer's cheeses and smoked sausage.

Mentor UMW Crafters - Our women have been hard at work all year long making crafts for the show! Also, don't forget to stop by and purchase RADA knives too - Made in the USA!

Attic Treasures - This is our one-room rummage sale... You never know what treasure you might find, so make sure you check it out!

This year we're celebrating 119 years of the Gingerbread House Arts & Crafts Show! So I thought it would be nice to take some time and share the history of the craft show with all of you:

When Mentor Methodist's "new" church building was completed in 1906, the Ladies' Aid Society, as it was then called, organized its first bazaar, at which craft items, vegetables, candy, and other foods were sold. This forerunner of the current Gingerbread House continued through the 1920's, when the Model T replaced the previously used horse and buggy as a means of bringing workers and shoppers to festivals.

The Fall Festival, as it was then known, gained more space with the addition of the Education Wing, and at various times has included sales areas featuring plants, children's clothing, books, attic treasures, a special quilt made by the Quilters, a Christmas workshop, lunch and tea rooms, a hot dog stand, and for a short time, antiques.

Workshops to prepare for the bazaar were held once or twice a week for several months beforehand, and this continues today. At one time a meal was served the night before the bazaar, but that was dropped in favor of lighter fare served on the day of the sale....

Caramel making once played a big part in preparation for the bazaar. That was a twice-a-week affair, lasting for a month or six weeks. Up to 500 pounds of caramels were made during that time. A few of the men helped to cut the candy, and the older ladies wrapped it. One husband made a carpeted platform for the women to stand on during the 2-3 hour task of stirring the sticky concoction.

In 1972 the Fall Festival acquired a new name -- the Gingerbread House. That same year crafts from the community were accepted on consignment. Many local people continue to bring their crafts year after year to what has become one of the most popular shows in the area.

Another craft show year has come and gone and this year was a huge success!! And there are so many thank you's to be shared...

First off, THANK YOU to all of the crafters that participated in this year's show! You all had such wonderful items! A special thank you to Kim for putting on another fantastic craft fair - You do such a great job! Thank you to Pam for making such amazing food for dinner and lunch! Thank you to Mike for getting everyone what they needed, setting up, cleaning up and getting the classrooms ready for Monday! And lastly, thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers!

We honestly could not do any of this without each and every one of you!

We hope you all enjoyed the weekend, we certainly did! We can't wait to see you all again next year - The count down is on!!

Stop by TODAY and shop 4-8:00pm. Then join us TOMORROW to shop some more from 10am-3pm!

We have over 75 local crafters ready to sell their amazing handmade arts and crafts! The Middlefield cheese, Bake Shoppe, Attic Treasures and UMW room are ready to see everyone too! And you can't forget about stopping by Fellowship Hall for homemade dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday.
