I Almost Said Yes

I turned down a really cool opportunity for Big Buns recently.

A year ago, I probably would’ve thought I was crazy for saying no 😂...But I’m learning that growing a business doesn’t always have to mean doing more.

We messed up: A Gluten-Free Bun Emergency

We have to give a huge shoutout to Monica Petty. 🩷
We had a mix-up with her order at the market yesterday... and for a seven-months-pregnant mama with a serious gluten-free cinnamon roll craving, that is a certified Bun Emergency. 😅

So we hopped in the car and got her sorted out with a delivery straight to her house.

Monica, thank you for being so gracious with us through the mix-up and for leaving us the sweetest review anyway.

Congratulations on your little one! We cannot wait to meet them (and keep you stocked in gluten-free cinnamon rolls in the meantime). 🍼🧡

Thank you all for coming out and checking out our buns today! We sold just over 250 cinnamon rolls...I’m so grateful for everyone who stopped by.

Several of you mentioned that you hadn’t seen us at the market in a few weeks and it meant a lot to hear were missed.

Y'all showed UP for the Dolly Bun! 💕 A portion of Dolly Bun sales is going to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, so thank you for helping us give a little back.

We’re officially back in the swing of things and will be at the McKinney Farmers Market twice a month.

Next up: Saturday, September 12th!

And one more thing… our fall menu is coming after Labor Day.

We’re bringing a little extra pink to the McKinney Farmers Market tomorrow!

The Dolly Bun is our Classy Bun topped with sprinkles and a little edible glitter, with a pink coquette bow on the packaging. She’s cute, she’s $6, and very Dolly. 💗

A portion of every Dolly Bun sold tomorrow will be donated to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a program that provides free books to children from birth to age five.

Dolly has always had such a heart for kids and literacy, so this felt like a sweet way for Big Buns to give a little back too.

Meet The Dolly Bun 🎀

Our OG Classy Bun with pink, gold & white sprinkles, edible glitter, and a coquette bow on the packaging.

But the best part of this bun isn’t the glitter.

In honor of Dolly, a portion of every Dolly Bun sold Saturday will be donated to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, helping put free books into the hands of kids...Dolly was always giving back, y'all.

One of the coolest things about starting Big Buns has been the people I’ve met along the way.

Obviously I love getting to meet all of YOU, but I’ve also made some pretty great vendor friends in this little small business world. The kind of people you see at events, cheer on when something exciting happens, and message each other at 3:00 a.m. because you’re both awake baking and questioning your life choices. 🤣

Kay is one of those people for me.

She recently created Gluten Free Royalty, and I’m so excited that Big Buns gets to be part of her very first Gluten Free Royalty Club & Market! 👑

It’s a small event with only 50 tickets and six local gluten-free vendors, which I honestly love. You’ll get to actually meet the people behind the businesses, try some really good gluten-free food, shop, hang out and maybe find a new local favorite.

And obviously, we’re bringing buns.

We’ll have gluten-free Classy Buns, Yee Haw Caramel Pecan, Oreo and Apple Bottom Jean, plus mini Classy Buns for samples.

We’re also giving away a FREE 4-pack of gluten-free Classy Buns for the grand prize!

We're getting close to 2,000 followers around here, so there are lots of new faces and it felt like a good time for an updated FAQ!

If you're new here, hi! I'm Meredith, the baker behind the buns. I started Big Buns Bakery in Melissa, Texas in July 2024, and what started as a little home project has somehow turned into thousands of cinnamon rolls.

1. What do you bake?
Cinnamon rolls. That's it. 😂 Big ones, regular ones, mini ones...but always buns. Cinnamon rolls are my thing.

2. What makes your buns different?
Every bun is made from scratch, hand-rolled, filled and iced by me. I use real fruit, make my fillings from scratch, cook the Yee-Haw caramel on the stove, and don't add preservatives. Just big, soft, gooey buns.

3. Do you offer gluten-free or vegan?
Yes! I make gluten-free, vegan AND gluten-free vegan buns.

My kitchen is not a dedicated gluten-free or allergen-free kitchen, so please keep that in mind if you have celiac disease or a severe allergy.

4. What are your most popular flavors?
Classy, our traditional OG, and Yee-Haw Caramel Pecan are the heavy hitters. Strawberrylicious and Blue Jean Blueberry have plenty of loyal fans too, plus I rotate seasonal flavors throughout the year.

And yes, the Bourbon Babe actually has bourbon in it! We use locally made Lockwood Bourbon in the glaze. 🥃

5. Where can I find your buns?
Big Buns is based in Melissa, Texas, and you'll most often find me at the McKinney Farmers Market at Chestnut Square, ranked the #1 farmers market in Texas!

You can also grab Big Buns cinnamon rolls at Country Charm Coffee in Anna every Saturday morning!

No storefront...yet. 😉

6. Can I order outside of the farmers market?
Absolutely! I take pre-orders, special orders and event orders.

7. Do you do events and large orders?
Yep! Showers, birthdays, brunches, weddings, office breakfasts, corporate events, teacher treats and more. I've done everything from a few buns to hundreds.

8. Can you make custom flavors?
Sometimes! Have a bun idea? Send it my way. Some of my favorite flavors have started with someone saying, “Okay, hear me out...” 😂

9. Do you ship?
Not currently. I've looked into it, but shipping big, fresh cinnamon rolls gets expensive FAST. For now, we're keeping the buns local.

Dropped off fresh Classy Buns at Country Charm in Anna this morning and walked in to a table full of Saturday morning coffee and conversation.

I love seeing people just hanging out and catching up at a local coffee shop. It’s such a simple little thing, but it’s what makes a place feel like your neighborhood spot.

Grab a friend, grab an iced coffee, grab a bun and stay awhile.

I’m so excited to be one of the vendors at the very first Gluten-Free Royalty event in Frisco! 👑

It’s a small, indoor, ticketed event featuring local gluten-free vendors, samples, light bites, an iced coffee bar, goodie bags, exclusive offers, a grand prize raffle and, of course… gluten-free Big Buns!
