James Newton Carmany, Jr., 70, went to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Thursday, July 30, 2026 after a long battle with cancer.

James was born July 5, 1956, to James and Mary Jane (Williams) Carmany, Sr. in Barberton. He retired from Acme as the Director of Merchandise in 2019 after 46 years. He also was a retired Hartville police officer who served 12 years.

James was a devout Catholic and loved going to daily mass and adoration as well as golfing, metal detecting and selling on EBAY. Attending his grandchildren's sporting events always brought him great joy.

James is survived by his loving wife, of 51 years, Diane (Dee) Carmany; children Jennifer (Jeff) Miller and Jimmy 'Bim'(Nicole) Carmany; grandchildren Dylan (Lauren), Emma, Gavin, Emelia, Gabriella, Sawyer, Gianna, Dominic, Daphne and; great grandchildren Brody, Charlotte and Sadie; siblings Linda (Frank) Young, Joyce (Larry) Armstrong and Cheryl (Gary) Marr. Sister-in-laws, Vivian Carmany and Jerri (Bill) Smith, brother-in-law Doug Davidson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in -law Jerry Davidson, brother Wayne, sister Brenda, and grandson Declan.

Special thanks to Jennifer, Jerri and Kelly for their loving care given to Jim at the end of his difficult journey.

The family will receive friends Monday, August 3, 2026, from 5 to 8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home, 1990 South Main St., Akron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 11:00 am at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 1676 S Cleveland Massillon Rd, Copley, OH 44321. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The Annual Danos MHS Classes of the 70’s Reunion will be Friday September 11th, 2026 this year, starting at 4:00pm till close. Name tags will be available and recommended, last year there were over 100 Attendees, Always a good time.
Please tell your high school friends. The more the merrier. There is usually a great turnout. Don’t miss it!

Safe travels to anyone who is making their way back home. The 50th reunion was a success! The food was delicious, the waiters & waitresses were very friendly and helpful. The venue was beautiful, everything was perfect.
We had a fantastic turnout of classmates. Here’s to our next reunion in 5 years.

TONIGHT: FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 20th from 5:00-9:00 pm. It’s time for the Manchester Class of 1974 to party!!! Looking forward to seeing everyone and having fun catching up.

The time has nearly arrived and we'll all be together before we can blink.

I want to thank those that helped with the reunion; Mary Jo Police, Carol Knack, Laurie Makary and Janet Frederick. David Beverly will be taking photos as you enter.

There will be a table set up that two of us will be greeting and handing out name tags using your Sr. year names.

There will be a photo booth for you to take silly pictures with your friends.

There will be a Memory Board of those who have passed.

There will be a letter board of those who sent emails about their lives but couldn't make the reunion.

5pm-6pm= Appetizers / Meet & Greet
6pm-7pm= Dinner, Cake / Meet & Greet
7pm-8pm= Meet & Greet
8pm-9pm= Dancing, Party Time, Meet & Greet

Saturday at 10am all who want to see our old high school (which has been converted to the Nolley elementary) & then walk over to see the new high school can park and meet at our old high school for the tours. This will be fun for all!

Anyone wanting to party after 9pm can go down to Portage St. & turn right & there is a Margartia's Mexican place open until 10pm & beside that there's Paolino's Sports Bar open until 2:30am.

Lots of pictures will be posted on our class website & Facebook. Please remember, which no one does, that if your email address changes you need to let me know because this is the only way you'll know when events are happening. Moving forward we hope to have our reunions every 5 years vs. ten. Time passes so quickly. Maybe our next will be a Panther River Cruise! Ha.
