My kitchen is the heart of our home
Calf Slobbers? Why name your “bakery” Calf Slobbers? That would be what my husband asked me when I told him the name. Well, I love calves. I love bottle feeding lil’ calves. There’s just something so peaceful about watching one of God’s creations drink milk from a bottle just like a newborn baby. If you’ve ever fed a calf, you know that your hands and thighs will leave the pens covered in calf slobbers and those lovely spots of calf slobbers is just about the same texture as a delicious topping of Meringue on a pie! In the late 1800’s, cowboys referred to meringue as “Calf Slobbers” when Cookie would treat them to a pie around the campfire. I love a good pie, I mean... WHO DOESN’T, especially one topped with a fluffy delicate pile of meringue! So, why not join the two “loves” together and name my lil’ “bakery”, Calf Slobbers. To take you back a bit..... I LOVE LOVE LOVE to be in the kitchen. Whether it’s baking, cooking, cleaning, reading with my coffee, whatever it might be... put me in my kitchen and I’m home. I knew that when we were planning our home’s blueprint, that the kitchen would be the heart. When people come over to visit, we all gather around the island. When the kids come into the house to check in, they plop down on my tractor seated bar stools, at the island. When the kids were young, they’d scatter their homework across the island to study. So I knew, I wanted an open floor plan in our new home. After years of cooking and baking, my husband mentioned one day... “Why don’t you sell some of your stuff”? “Who... ME”? I said, confused. I thought, there’s no way someone is going to wanna buy my treats. I cook and bake for us, nobody is gonna wanna buy it! He said, “Try it”. So I made a pan of cinnamon rolls, only to discover I didn’t have a disposable pan in the pantry.... UGH!!! So I tossed em in my favorite red 9x13 pan and posted those puppies on Facebook. Andrea Cunningham was my first victim. She bought the rolls and returned the pan (Thank you Andrea :) ). From there, it took off! Our 2.5 year old daughter LOVES to “help” in the kitchen and gets so excited to lick the beaters after I mix up a bowl of icing or “calf slobbers”. Every time she licks the spoon or tastes a new thing, she says, “Mmmmm, AMAZING”! (She’s biased, I know) I know that these days of baking with her are short and they will leave a lasting and hopefully lovely memory in her lil’ brain for years to come. The memories I have in the kitchen with my Granny are so special to me and I’m so thankful for them. So, welcome to my home-based bakery, Calf Slobbers. Thank you to all my customers for your support!!! FYI - At no time does actual Calf Slobbers enter any of “Calf Slobbers Bakery’s” food! ;)
