The reality of being in the woods at night is sometimes you run across unwanted critters… Scout was hot on a trail last night when he encountered a porcupine on his scent line. The picture below is after pulling 25-30 quills while Brandon and Scout were deep in the woods. Scout continued to search and ended up picking his line back up even after having the quills pulled but unfortunately the deer was not recovered. Last night was a long sleepless night for Scouter, we are currently headed to the clinic to sedate him and pull the remaining quills. As if this week hadn’t been long enough with replacing the entire roof on our home, Scout thought we needed some additional work. Tracking isn’t all rainbows and recoveries, sometimes it looks like sh*tshows and sleepless nights.

Scouter had a rough weekend so ending it with a quick easy track is exactly what he needed to boost his confidence. He went on 2 tracks Friday night and didn’t get home until 1:30am on Saturday, slept hard for a while and then left at 9am to go back and try his last track again. Unfortunately we did not recover either deer from our first two calls and you could tell it put a damper on Scout’s spirit. Thankfully Matt gave us a call Saturday night and was positive the deer crashed about 80 yards out but was nervous it was a gut shot so he waited for Scout until Sunday AM to allow him to get on an easy track and give him a confidence booster! We are beyond thankful for friends that allow us to put Scout to work!

Happy birthday Scouter Boy!!

Scout’s days have been filled with soaking up the love from his new sissy that we welcomed in May! He is the BEST big brother.

Tracking season is going to look very different for us this year. If we can’t make a call we will be sure to get you in contact with someone who can! We appreciate everyone’s patience and support as we enter this first tracking with a new little tracker on our hands. 🧡

Scouter’s with a quick find last night for a great friend of ours! They knew just what to do and backed out so Scout had the best odds of finding this nice buck!

Today has been a long, exhausting day with 3 tracks. We’re hitting the hay for the night but stay tuned. One track lined up for tomorrow evening as well.

Scouter Boy was BUSY today! Woke up with two tracks on the books. Ran the first one in Big Rapids for about 400 yards with unfortunately no recovery. Went to head to our second call and received a messaged saying they found the deer. Received a third call on the way home and decided to give it a go. Scout tracked it like a champ for about 800 yards, crossing a road and all. Had to stop and get permission from neighboring land owners and then it was on again. Scout blew us all out of the water with the way he worked this track and we couldn’t be more proud.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
Ending the night 1-1. First track was a long, hard one. We still have quite a few “I don’t knows” for that track unfortunately. Thankfully we were able to get Scout on a nice, short track to help boost his confidence.

Tracking is such an awesome thing but it also fills your head with so many “what ifs” and questions you may never get the answer to. We are blessed to get to own such an amazing dog and appreciate the support we’ve been shown along the way!

Scouter Boy slept hard last night after a nice, easy track right before bed. Hunter wasn’t totally confident in his shot and did the right thing calling us out. Thankful this hunter knew exactly what to do by not trampling the area and just allowing the dog to do his job. Thanks again for the call!!

Scouter Boy found another one last night for a good friend of ours! This dog made quick work of a shoulder shot on a cold rainy night. As usual it took a little while to get him start on the track but once he got started he was off! Thanks Ray for the call!!

The update we’ve all been waiting for!

Scout is doing amazing and back to his normal, crazy self! He must’ve known it was season and he needed to be out in the woods. At this point we are both comfortable getting him back to tracking.
