Last week we had the honor of hosting some of our producers and importers in the roastery. We are working with Rodrigo to bring on some incredible coffees that we’ll be rolling out very soon. Brittany and William are with Forest Flame Coffee and we got to hear about their sustainability and ethical sourcing practices, their heart for producers, and their commitment to excellence. We’re so excited to partner with people who value relationships with producers as much as we do! 🤍

Welcome our newest coffee, Popayán Reserve!

This reserve is a tribute to the passion and craft of nearly 65 smallholder producers, each contributing to a cup that’s as rich and layered as fudge chocolate. Deep, indulgent notes unfold alongside a soft acidity, creating a beautifully balanced finish. Grown in Colombia’s Cauca region, Popayán sits on a plateau cradled by the Andes. The cool mountain air and volcanic soil create the perfect conditions for slow-growing, flavor-packed coffee. For generations, these producers have worked in harmony with the land, carrying forward a legacy that dates back to 1736, when Jesuit missionaries first planted coffee seeds in the seminary of Popayán.This coffee isn’t just a product of nature—it’s a reflection of history, of community, and of the deep care that goes into every harvest. Welcome our newest coffee, Ever Mendoza!

You may remember that last year we had the chance to offer a stellar Guatemalan coffee produced by Miguel Mendoza. The coffee’s complex profile of baked fruit and jam notes was a knockout, made all the more special by the fact that we were able to visit him on his farm, El Mirador, in the Spring of 2024. 

Recently, Miguel’s farm operations have been spearheaded by his son, Ever. This latest offering represents the fruit of that transition, showcasing the legacy of their family’s business as well as a capacity for diverse flavors found within El Mirador. We taste a sparkling, syrupy quality akin to classic sodas, with soft citrus notes in the finish. This profile evokes that which belonged to the coffee we offered from the family last year, while still possessing the ability to surprise us by giving us something unique and remarkable to experience. We see this as representative of the continually evolving work of the Mendozas at El Mirador. “Each year we challenge ourselves to improve the quality of our product,” Ever states. It is a collaborative effort, one that extends beyond any one particular worker or producer at El Mirador. In that way, Ever Mendoza’s coffee is also representative of our own values at Edison, and one of the primary reasons we take so much joy in getting to partner with him and his team of producers.

This coffee is bursting with notes of honey, raspberry, and delicate florals. It’s a reflection of Antonio and Eby’s hard work, their commitment to sustainability, and their deep connection to community. With every sip, you taste their story—a story of passion, progress, and heart.

But Antonio’s vision doesn’t stop here. He’s committed to advancing sustainable farming practices and supporting his local community. One of his dreams is to make farm supplies more accessible for other producers in the region, empowering them to invest in their own futures. “Together, we take care of the environment to avoid contamination,” Antonio and Eby explain. Producing honeys and naturals isn’t just a path to better coffee for them—it’s a way to create opportunities, improve wages for workers, and provide for their children’s education.

What a year 2024 was! Here is a brief recap of the year:

-January! So many fun experimental releases, you all loved them and we did too!
-February! Origin trip to Guatemala, more words than fit in this small word count were given, but a definite highlight of the year.
-March! Guatemala debrief and fun times together as a team.
-April! Hosted our first seasonal market, and it was so, so good to see all your faces again!
-May! More team building, growing together and learning together.
-June! Roasting away, always. Halfway through the year!
-July! Edison becomes available through UberEats and DoorDash.
-August! Cupping, always cupping. Sometimes matching.
-September! Second seasonal market! Always end the morning exhausted and full, seeing all our regulars and customers we dearly love.
-October! Trainings with some of our local partners, pictured here DBU.
-November! So many catering events this year, lots as we near closing out the year.
-December! Ended the year busy as ever, and set some firm aside to be together as a team and enjoy good food and each other’s company.

Through the highs and lows, we saw once more what we were made of and the community we are so lucky to be surrounded and supported by. We love the work we get to do, and are honored to be closing out another wonderful year together.
Cheers to 2024, you were a good one! 🥂
