While going into spring break and knowing that some of our food would not make it through the week, we took it as an opportunity to teach our students preserving as opposed to wasting.

Doing my part to ignite the homesteading/self sustainability spark in their hearts.

Gingerbread project 3 of 3.
Third and final house for the Fall 2024 semester.

As students work on their projects, I like to work on projects of my own in hopes to inspire them to step out of their comfort zones but if I’m being honest, I also really enjoy the challenges I tend to put myself in. I really enjoy pushing myself to try something different, something out of the norm. This one was definitely different and a challenging. I first saw this photo of the cuckoo clock and was inspired to make a whole cabin in the woods scene on a platform. But then as I showed it to someone (don’t remember who), this person laughed and made a comment about making a functioning clock. I guess they thought I couldn’t. I’ll show them. My mind quickly flooded with different ideas on how to make it work, again loveing the challenge when it comes to things like this. When the base all shattered under the house the day before it was due, I was able to keep my melt down under control and just keep swimming. Ain’t nobody got time for that. lol at the end of the project, I was externally happy and proud with result of all that hard work. Big shout out to my babe, Mark, for helping out with the supports to the house and to my spirit. And to my co-worker, Chef Ruben for assisting with feedback and balances.

Alright Y’all, here is 2 of 3 gingerbread project for Fall of 2024. This one was fun and cute to do. This was inspired by the cute houses of Amsterdam. With their tall and narrow buildings, these homes are mostly known for their distinctive pitched roofs and colorful exteriors and therefore made for a great addition to this project. I must say that this had a lot of parts to the project and was very tedious and took a lot of time, but I will sing. It was very well worth it. I was extremely happy how it all turned out. Side note: lol…. So this is the very first project that I’ve done out of my own free will that I have incorporated the color pink into it. I laughed because my coworker, then my instructor, reminded me of how much I protested creating anything pink as a student. Going as far as proudly accepting a zero or two simply because I refuse to use the color pink. Look at me now Chef Ruben.

As part of their assignment, I asked the Cake Decorating students for a short clip of their process as they created their gingerbread masterpieces. Finally decided to finish mine… lol. I’m finally turning in my late assignment. 1 of 3 gingerbread houses I worked on this past semester.
