A little bakery research in Vienna. Tough job, but somebody’s gotta do it. 😂🍫🇦🇹

Yesterday’s stop was the famous Café Sacher, home of the Original Sachertorte, a Viennese chocolate cake with a history dating back to 1832!

It includes layers of chocolate cake, apricot jam, and a smooth chocolate coating, traditionally served with unsweetened whipped cream.

I love discovering how different cultures approach their desserts, especially recipes that have stood the test of time. And naturally, I’m taking a few mental notes along the way. 👀😂

Has anyone else tried the authentic Sachertorte? 🤍

This big boy is over 6 pounds!

He’s made from maple end grain with black walnut end-grain inlay. And that face? Not painted. Not printed. Not burned on. Those eyes, nose and slightly questionable grin are actual walnut set into the maple.

He measures about 16” tall and over 1” thick, which officially puts him somewhere between cutting board and kitchen weapon. 😂

And yes, you can actually use him as a cutting board. Although I already know half of you are going to say you’d never cut on him.

Simply Sweeties By Lisamarie is officially a permitted New Jersey Cottage Food Operator! 🎉

This journey has followed me through a crazy amount of States, kitchens, communities, and cultures, and every stop along the way has left a little inspiration behind. Add in family traditions, and years of baking, and Simply Sweeties has become a collection of flavors and treats that truly reflects the road that brought me here.

Now, I finally get to bring it all together here in New Jersey. 🤍

The ovens are warming up, the menu is coming, and Simply Sweeties is officially back in business.

Happy National Grape Day 🍇

Little fun fact… grapes have been around longer than most desserts we know today, and honestly, they still hold their own.

My pick every single time? Black grapes with cheese. That combo just works. Simple, classic, and hard to stop snacking on once you start. 🧀🍇

Split open and there it is for a little Macro session. 📸

Thick, glossy vanilla caviar sitting right where it should be. This is the kind of depth that carries through everything! Our sugars, extracts, baking… all of it starts here.

These are Mexican beans, known for that deeper, richer profile that holds up beautifully in small batch work.

I don’t rush ingredients, and I don’t cut corners. You can taste the difference when it’s done right.

I’ve been quietly steeping this unique batch since 2022… and it’s finally ready. ✨

I kept coming back to it over time, letting it develop the way it was meant to. A slow extraction, deep, and full of character. 🌿

This one came out bold. Double fold (baker’s vanilla), rich, and layered in a way that’s a little different from what most people expect from vanilla.

**Where this particular bean shines:**

It’s not your classic Madagascar profile. This leans deeper and built more for chocolate desserts 🍫 like brownies and cakes, and even coffee ☕ when you actually want the flavor to stand out.

I didn’t get a large number of bottles from this batch… and honestly, I don’t know when I’ll have another one quite like it.

If you’ve ever been curious what a long-steeped vanilla, (especially one made for chocolate lovers really tastes like) this is one of those moments to try it.
