Hi friends! πŸ‘‹

What do you do when the garden gives you more cherry tomatoes than you know what to do with? πŸ… That was the challenge that we had this week.

Cory took up the challenge to find a recipe and found one for a savory clafoutis (pronounced klah-foo-tee). It's somewhere between a crustless quiche and a tender baked custardβ€”a mixture of eggs, cream, and just enough flour to give it structure.

From there, I improvised. I threw in the cherry tomatoes along with diced bratwurst, chopped olives and scallions, and shredded cheddar cheese - not anywhere close to the recipe, but I followed the spirit of it. πŸ˜‰

But since I strayed from the recipe, the cooking time became more of a suggestion. Forty minutes at 350 F resulted in a 75%-done clafoutis you see here.

Lesson learned for next time - and there will be a next time, because once it was actually cooked through, it was delicious. πŸ˜‹

Hi friends! πŸ‘‹

You know it's hot when squirrels reconsider their life choices. 🐿️πŸ”₯

But we're not letting a little summer heat keep us from Saturday at the market!

We'll have our seasonal vegetables and handcrafted pastries ready for you at C-Street City Market. Come early, take your time, find a little shade, and enjoy a morning supporting your favorite local growers and makers.

And here's our friendly summer reminder: bring water to stay hydrated while you're strolling the market. While some vegetables may appreciate the heat, the rest of us need a little help. πŸ˜‰

Come hungry - Bring water - Stay cool. We'll see you Saturday! 🧑

Hi friends! πŸ‘‹

Sometimes our customers teach us a thing or two. 🧑

For the longest time, our go-to way for cooking beets was simple: into the slow cooker with about an inch of water until tender.

But since we started selling at the market, we've heard from so many of you about how much you enjoy roasted beets. This weekend, curiosity finally got the better of us. πŸ˜‰

We cut up a mix of our red and Chioggia beets, tossed them with olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic granules, then roasted them at 375Β°F for about 40–45 minutes.

The verdict? We get it now. πŸ˜‹

Compared with slow cooking, the roasted beets had a firmer, more satisfying bite. The olive oil and seasonings created a savory exterior that paired beautifully with the beets' natural earthy sweetnessβ€”and those lightly browned caramelized edges were especially tasty.

We may officially be converts. 🧑

We truly enjoy swapping ideas with the people who visit our table. This is one of our favorite things about the market. So thank you to everyone who encouraged us to give roasting a try!

Now we're curious: What's your favorite way to season roasted beets?

Hi friends! πŸ‘‹

Kohlrabi is one of those veggies that people ask, "What is that???". We feel bad for the kohlrabi, so we're here to be its advocate.

Peel off the tougher exterior and you'll find a crisp, juicy vegetable with a mild flavor and gentle sweetness. It tastes somewhere between a crisp apple, broccoli stem, and mild cabbage.

Here are 4 different ways you can prepare it:

🍏 Raw: Peel it, slice it, eat it like an apple.
πŸ₯— Slaw: Shred it with carrots and a simple dressing.
πŸ₯™ Sandwiches or wraps: Layered in for a fresh, satisfying crunch.
πŸ”₯ Roasted: Cut into cubes, toss with oil, salt & pepper, roast until caramelized, which brings out even more of its natural sweetness

So hopefully you have some appreciation for the poor little kohlrabi.

Whether you want to try something new this weekend or you're simply looking to add to your meals this week, we hope you'll stop by and say hello! πŸ™‹

Hi friends! πŸ‘‹

While croissants may be my particular corner of the baking world, I also have great respect for bakers who devote themselves to mastering a different one.

The Breadatarian () brings that kind of dedication to sourdough and fresh-milled grains, with a philosophy centered on wholesome ingredients and nourishing food.

Cory has been enjoying her fresh-milled flour loaf this week, usually with a good swipe of butter. πŸ˜‰

It's a wonderfully hearty, flavorful loaf, and I especially appreciate the thought and intention she puts into her baking. It's always a pleasure to recognize good work from a fellow baker.

Hi friends πŸ‘‹

A few quiet moments from the garden. 🌱

If you slow down and look closely, there's always something happeningβ€”something growing, something visiting, something simply enjoying the sunshine.

Sometimes it's nice just to stop and notice. 🧑

Hi friends! πŸ‘‹

The gardens are where a lot of work happensβ€”tending, watering, watching, and waiting to see what Mother Nature has planned for us next.

And lately, she's apparently decided we could all use a little more heat. πŸ˜‰

It's going to be another hot one this Saturday, so before you head to the market, toss a bottle of water in your bag. Staying hydrated will make wandering the booths, visiting your favorite vendors, and deciding which pastry is calling your name much more enjoyable. πŸ’§πŸ₯

We'll have our fresh-picked seasonal vegetables and handcrafted pastries waiting for you.

Come hungry. Bring water. Take your time. We'll see you Saturday! πŸ§‘πŸ™‹

Hi friends!

There's a special appreciation that comes with eating something made by another baker. You know the time, care, practice, and love that went into itβ€”and then you get the rare luxury of simply sitting back and enjoying it.

Today, Cory had that pleasure with this raisin pie from a fellow baker, Sweeter Than Honey. Well deserving a chef's kiss!

Hi friends! πŸ‘‹ Great news - We got a trophy! πŸ†

On Saturday, we were surprised to learn that Goldfinch Creek Farm was voted C-Street City Market Vendor Choice Booth of the Month for August 2026! πŸŽ‰

We're honored to be recognized by our fellow vendors and so grateful to all of you who support our little farm and bakery each week. Every vegetable, every croissant, and every friendly conversation at our table makes it possible for us to keep doing what we love. β™₯️

We are proud to display the trophy at our table this month!

Hi friends! πŸ‘‹

If you've picked up one of our cherry tomato pints, you may have noticed it's a colorful mix of three different varieties. Each brings its own unique flavor to the table.

🟣 INDIGO CHERRY DROPS – The Bold One
Color: Deep purple-black, ripening to rich red.
Flavor: Sweet-tart with a rich, almost wine-like tomato flavor that lingers on the palate.
Best for: Charcuterie boards, fresh salads, or anyone who enjoys a more complex tomato.

πŸ”΄ SAKURA – The Classic One
Color: Bright cherry red.
Flavor: The perfect balance of sweetness and acidity - the idyllic juicy, sun-ripened cherry tomato flavor that everything else is measured against.
Best for: Snacking, pasta salads, or just popping straight from the pint.

🟠 SUN GOLD – The Sweet One
Color: Golden orange.
Flavor: Exceptionally sweet and fruity with hints of tropical fruit and very low acidity.
Best for: Converting people who think they don't like tomatoes...and usually the first ones to disappear!

πŸ₯¬ A note about lettuce:

The heat last week caused much of our lettuce to bolt, shifting its energy from growing leaves to producing seeds. This changes the flavor from sweet and tender to more bitter. So, we'll have a limited supply at the market this Saturday because we'd rather offer you the lettuce we'd enjoy eating ourselves.

Whether you want to add a little something to your salads this week or you're simply looking to get out and enjoy a summer morning, we hope you'll stop by and say hello! πŸ™‹
