Here is a cake I designed earlier this evening. I kept thinking in my mind how I am going to bring a 'Harvest' theme into a cake. I had a few ideas in my mind that I kept pondering over. I put everything together this evening when I was decorating away.

This cake will be judged this Saturday at the Iowa State Rabbit Breeders Association State Convention.

One of the categories is a themed decorated cake. I made my homemade chocolate cake.

It has been awhile that I have been asked to make a birthday cake. I made this by scratch. The person said that they wanted an avocado shaped birthday cake for their daughters birthday. I immediately started looking up avocado shaped cakes. The person sent me a picture of a few examples of one looking exactly like an avocado. They were not picky and let me decide.

Upon researching, I found one that was cute and perfect for a child's 5th birthday! I started baking the cake, 2 sheets that totaled a height of 4 inches and then had made a smaller round cake using a doll cake pan for the seeds to put in the middle.

After the cakes were out of the oven and cooled, I would put them in the refrigerator as it would be easier to carve the cake into what I needed.

I then used a table knife to start drawing the outline of the avocado before cutting into the cake.

I did small section at a time, pulling out many of the pieces that were not needed. Once this was done, onto decorating the cake!

I was eyeing the colors I had and figuring out which color will be the best fit for the outside and inside. I enjoyed doing this and started working away!

Eventually it was time to put the rounded cake on the cake and start decorating it to make it look like seeds. I then did the face, bow, hands and feet. I don't use fondant, only buttercream as that is what the person wanted...an all buttercream we frosted cake!

I showed it to the person who made the order and she thought it was really cute and loved it! Very happy that I had the chance to do this. It was fun to be able to do a sculpted cake like this!

This is in the works. There will be more to add next class. After we lay down the ground work of the drawing, then we will start working on adding the texture, in which I really enjoy doing!! This one i have lots of ideas on what I want to do with this painting! It is a 24x30 painting so much smaller from the other but will be mysterious and fun!
