After 8 years of offering you the finest biscotti and pizzelle that I could bake, I am hanging up my apron and closing Baker's Lane Biscotti. It has been an absolutely heartwarming and blessed experience connecting with so many of you over shared traditions, foods, recipes, travel, and everything in between. Thank you for all of the love, support and gratitude you've shown me during this journey. It has truly been amazing.
Even though I will still be at Amherst Farmers' Market through the end of the season (November 21), there are only 2 weeks left to order from the website, which will shut down on October 30.
Six more Saturdays on Amherst Common...hope to see you at one of them!

Baker's Lane Biscotti was planning to cancel this week's appearance at the Amherst Farmers' Market. We can all say "thank you" to Elisabeth, who is able to step in on very short notice. She will be so happy to see you and will take great care to supply you with your homemade biscotti and pizzelle!

Sunday evening I went to the North End to catch the final festivities of the Fisherman's Feast. I had thought about vending there, and this is how I found out about the connection to Sciacca, Sicily, where my heritage lies. The fishermen in Sciacca look to the Madonna del Soccorso di Sciacca (The Lady of Help of Sciacca) for safety and protection and are devoted to her. Upon arriving, I spoke with one of the members of the Society, who stated that one of their sister-clubs is in Norristown, PA (where my parents grew up).
The festival starts on the Thursday before the 3rd weekend in August (near the Assumption). The Madonna is carried to the wharf for the blessing of the boats and the 4-day festival begins. Shoulder-to-shoulder, in the streets of the North End, I watched the finale of the festival, the "flight of the angel," which was very lively and fun. The best part for me, though, was after this. By some wonderful serendipity, I was able to witness the true ending, back at the wharf. No crowds, no fanfare. Just the Madonna and the "angels" shouting "Viva Madonna di Sciacca" and praying the Hail Mary.

Grateful for some time on Sunrise Beach reconnecting with a dear family friend in Marshfield. Of course, this meant a visit to my business namesake. Many memories on this beautiful country lane.

What to do with all of those freshly-picked strawberries from Red Fire Farm and Dave's Natural Garden? No need to make shortcakes...grab some pizzelle (anise, vanilla or gluten-free vanilla) from Baker's Lane Biscotti this Saturday at Amherst Farmers' Market! Add some ice cream and whipped cream and there you have it.

If you have ever made pizzelle before, you know it may be difficult to find a container in which to store them, as they are larger than your standard cookie. Growing up, when we made them for the holidays and other family gatherings, we would store them in a stock pot. It was large so we could fit 3 stacks. It kept them fresh and we would store it our pantry.
Visiting my dad recently, I found the stock pot! It brought back those wonderful memories, so I just had to share it.
It's the simple things.
