One of my worst traits as a business owner is convincing myself that I can do absolutely everything on my own.

Need help? I’ll figure it out myself.
Overwhelmed? I’ll push through.
Too much on my plate? I’ll just work longer hours.

For some reason, asking for help has always felt harder than just carrying the weight myself. It’s something I’m constantly working on because the reality is that no successful business is built entirely by one person.

Another thing I’m guilty of? Prioritizing customer service so much that everyone else gets put on the back burner.

My clients get quick responses, detailed emails, and my full attention. Meanwhile, my friends and family are sitting there wondering if I fell off the face of the earth because it takes me three to five business days to respond to a text. 😅

It’s not because they’re less important—quite the opposite. Sometimes I get so focused on serving my clients and running my business that I don’t leave enough energy for the people closest to me. I hate this about myself.

Being a business owner is a constant balancing act, and I’m still learning that taking care of myself, accepting help, and making time for the people I love are just as important as taking care of my customers.

This isn’t the life I thought I’d have.

When I was younger, I imagined a very different path for myself. I thought life would look more traditional. I thought I’d finish school. I thought I’d have more time to “figure things out” before becoming a mom. I dreamed of living in a big city and building a completely different kind of life.

But life had other plans.

I had babies young. I didn’t come from money. There were seasons where we were just trying to make ends meet and survive.

Baking started as something small — just a way to bring in a little extra income for my family while doing something I enjoyed. I started in 2021 after COVID, during a season where I was trying to find my footing. Trying to find purpose. Trying to figure out who I was outside of just surviving.

And somehow… it turned into this.

A real business.
A growing business.
A business that completely changed my life.

Now I get to create wedding cakes and desserts for some of the most important days in people’s lives. I get to work with wedding venues all across Colorado. I’ve built relationships with vendors I once dreamed of hiring for my own wedding.

I’ve been voted #1 Wedding Bakery in Best of NOCO.
I’ve had my work featured in magazines.
And I’ve met some of the most incredible people through this journey.

Sometimes I have to stop and remind myself… this all started in my kitchen.

No, my path didn’t look the way I thought it would. But I’m really proud of where it led me.

For a long time, I viewed my story as “falling behind.”

Now I see it differently.

I was building something — even when I didn’t realize it yet.

And honestly? I think that’s pretty damn awesome.

If your life doesn’t look the way you imagined it would, I hope you know that doesn’t mean you failed. Sometimes the most beautiful things grow from the paths we never planned to take.
