Choose a bamboo cutting board if you’re looking for a sustainable, lightweight, and low-maintenance option. However, be prepared to sharpen your knives more frequently due to the hardness of bamboo.

Do not use bleach, harsh chemicals, or scouring pads to clean your wooden board as these can damage the wood’s surface and finish. Stick to mild soap and a soft sponge. Additionally, avoid using sharp, serrated knives, which can leave deep cuts.
👉 Tip: For deep cleaning, sprinkle coarse salt and rub with half a lemon to deodorize and disinfect naturally.

Cleaning a wooden cutting board properly helps maintain its longevity and prevents bacteria build-up. Here’s a step-by-step guide to clean it:
1. Basic Cleaning After Each Use 🧼
• Scrape off food debris with a spatula or a cloth.
• Wash with warm soapy water using a soft sponge or cloth.
• Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove soap residue.
• Dry immediately using a towel to avoid water absorption.
2. Deep Cleaning 🧽
• Use coarse salt or baking soda: Sprinkle over the surface.
• Rub with a lemon: Cut a lemon in half and scrub the board with the salt/baking soda to deodorize and remove stains.
• Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse off with warm water.
3. Disinfect 🌿
• Use white vinegar or diluted hydrogen peroxide to kill bacteria. Spray or pour onto the surface and let it sit for a few minutes.
• Rinse off with water afterward.
4. Dry Thoroughly 💨
• Avoid soaking your wooden cutting board in water. Always dry it immediately with a clean towel and leave it standing vertically to air dry completely.
5. Condition Your Board 🪵
• Apply food-grade mineral oil or beeswax to prevent the wood from cracking. Use a clean cloth to rub the oil into the board, let it absorb for a few hours or overnight, and then wipe off any excess.
Pro Tips:
• Never put a wooden cutting board in the dishwasher as the heat and moisture can warp and crack the wood.
• Oil regularly (once a month) to maintain moisture.
