Happy International Women's Day π
This seems as good a time as any to talk about where we started, where we are + where we're going.
If you're new here, my name is Kristin and I am the 30-year old sole proprietor of Colossus. My husband Nick joined me early on in the kitchen and at the markets and now serves as our operations/coffee director.
In 2013, I had just graduated from with a degree in History/Econ with a minor in Middle Eastern Studies. Armed with a knowledge of the middle ages, conversational french and arabic, and about 4 years experience working in Long Beach cafes, I wandered for quite a bit before finding myself plating pastry at .
The pace was a shock to me at first, but I loved the pastry kitchen. showed me what it was like to work in a kitchen full of strong women + introduced me to the art of Italian seasonal pastry.
I moved to SF where taught me to work independently and gave me the seeds for what would later become an obsessed journey with bread and eventually laminated pastry--- a journey which eventually led me back home, a journey that started Colossus.
I'm very grateful to all of the passionate women who have impacted me along this journey. Through their mentorship, friendship, leadership + example they have lifted me and others around me to be better.
Here we are 3 years in, with nearly 20 employees, a tiny shop, and another shop on the way. We have grown quickly but we still have a long journey ahead of us.
I haven't posted much about our new shop's delays, because frankly, it's been discouraging. That being said, I'm very grateful for your continued support of this woman's journey and of what Colossus is and could be. Nick and I will be hopping on Instagram Live to give you a little update on the new shop and why the heck we aren't open yet. Tune in this afternoon at 1 π
This is a story . Now, I invite: .yeee to share her moment.
