I had a wonderful time at a Bee Conference in Georgia over the weekend.
Last month I completed training to become a honey judge. Part of the training is to compete in Honey Shows to gain experience and understand judging. The Honey Show in Georgia is one of the largest, and they offer cash prizes. I didn’t go home empty handed!

Researchers at Michigan State University have brought a k-9, a springer-spaniel named Maple, into the fold to help detect the honeybee disease: American foulbrood, a bacterial disease that poses a significant threat to honeybees.

Her bee suit is specially altered and tested to keep her safe!!

I have been enjoying the SC Beekeepers Conference this week. I have learned so much! I also took a day class to start my qualification to become a Honey Judge.

The theme this year is a 50 year celebration of the SC Beekeepers Association; Past, Present, and Future

I entered a poem, and I won the Blue Ribbon! I was so surprised!

The biggest news today from the North Carolina/South Carolina Beekeepers conference:
I signed up to be a mentor for Hives For Heroes Group and I won a drawing for this beautiful hive from Apimaye Beekeepers that was generously donated by Stan Gore.

I will mentor a veteran with this new hive for a year, and then gift it to the veteran. In return, I will also receive a beautiful hive.

If you are a beekeeper, you’ve got to check this hive out if you haven’t already!
