Circa October 2020. We had just acquired our storefront on Main St. in Little Falls, NJ. Before we took over the space it was also a bakery (called Too Sweet)! You can imagine our relief during the first global year of Covid that we didn't need to do any construction. We also just found out we were pregnant with Olive!

So with that, and a fresh coat of paint, we added our gold, black, and white beehive flair in hopes to make ends meet during a very uncertain time. We opened Nov 2020 with a ribbon cutting with mayor and city council members.

Our story was simple: we were a husband and wife team, both pastry chefs, who wanted to do what we loved with our son and expected daughter. And we did just that for 5 1/2 years. Countless cakes and croissants sold ❤️

Mo and Jay Pastry is more than just a pastry shop, we're a family. The community literally watched our family grow up, as we did theirs.

Our chapter at Little Falls may have ended, but our book is still being written.

In france for now...to be continued

With 3 days left to go, you'd think we'd be mostly done by now, but we weren't haha. We hadn't packed luggage yet and we needed to prep for our final yard sale the next day (we had 2 yard sales in total).

I still needed to packed my dad's ashes, Bocuse, and the remainder of the pallets to send via boat to France.

I pulled my kids before the school year ended fully. Which was unique for my daughter because she's missing her preschool graduation to enter kindergarten, but her school hooked us up to our complete surprise 🥹

Let's talk SHIPPING INTERNATIONALLY

This is a quick update and how the process has been going. At this point it was a week until we were set to fly out.

The pallets were suppose the be done by now and hopefully picked up at this point but we were so behind schedule. We ended up sending 2 full pallets by boat to France. Because we were behind schedule, we ended up stacking them at our friend's house to be picked up by the company after we flew out. We were literally still packing up until the our uber picked us up for our flight 🥴

Estimated time given to us was 4-6 weeks to get to France once it's picked up. We flew out May 3rd. Our pallets got picked up 2 weeks after we left with an estimated arrival of June 27th. (SPOILER: We still haven't received them as of now [July 24]. Another video on that later hahaha)

10 days until we fly out!!! Things were finally looking up! House was in contract, business got sold, and WE GOT AN APARTMENT IN FRANCE! 2 weeks prior to moving out, I literally didnt have a place to stay permanently in France. The last 2 weeks was a nail biter for sure.

Soooo many great things that happened, and then I got hit by a car.....

Trying to find housing in France is difficult for several reasons. The two biggest issues are 1. not being residents (doesn't matter that Mo is a citizen!) And 2. not having French work history. Our money is foreign making matters more challenging.

Landlords are less likely to rent to you if you dont have both because its also very hard to evict you if something goes wrong. Its more a liability issue.

The fulm details on this can be found on Episode 3 of our podcast From Bagels to Baguettes Podcast currently found on Spotify. I go more in depth on the topic and ways to navigate it.

Today I'm 33 years young. I made 33 complete rotations around the sun! If you told younger me that at any point of my life I would be living in France, minutes outside Paris, I wouldn't believe you.

Its been 2 months since we all moved here and it definitely has been an adventure! Grateful for all of the hard life lessons, and hope I continue to learn and grow. This year, we choose to be happy. We're choosing ourselves!

Happy birthday to my birthday twins Elina Alston and 50 Cent !!

Making the decision to move abroad was hard. It takes a lot of courage to up and move your entire family, including kids, to another country. You'll miss your village, the culture is different, and sometimes the language. But knowing your "why" makes it easier.

There are different ways to go about it and financing it. This is just how we did it and what made sense for our family at the time.

I started recording my experience and will post them in order. I tried to organize this in a podcast. This recording was 16 mins long, so the whole episode can be found on the podcast I named "From Bagels to Baguettes" episode 2!
Podcast is only on Spotify for now.

Some raw unfiltered footage 😆
Typical breakfast time at our house in Jersey 🥰
By this point, we told the kids. Olive was excited. Charlie took some coming around. But once we told him how big soccer was in France, he perked up ⚽️
Charlie's in the 2nd grade, so he already had friends, his soccer team, and his martial arts family. This wasn't going to be easy for him to part ways. And Olive.... we'll she's Olive. And if you know, you know 😂

This is my first video, the moment I decided to document the experience. About 4 weeks prior to recording this was the moment we decided to officially move and began the legal process. More on that later.

Please keep in mind, from here on out, the language is going to change 😂 I'm going to get a little less filtered. I also wasn't looking for perfection in recording, but rather getting the info out. I wasn't trying to be "pretty", just authentic and myself.

I'm in the process of starting a podcast because some of my videos are way to long for socials lol. I may post clips of it here but the full video will be on a podcast. That info is coming soon!

It's been 5 weeks (or 6 idk)! A lot of people have messaged privately asking how we and the kids are doing. I also want to update you on how the page's content will revamp soon to more lifestyle content. Many people are curious how this all works and how we were able to pack up and move abroad as a family in present times. That content will be getting posted soon in order. I have been documenting the journey since March!
