This past Saturday started with excitement as I prepared for an interview with WSBT-TV reporter Eryn Rogers. I was hopeful the story would shine a light on Sip & Frost Cake Bar, our mission, our GoFundMe campaign, and our upcoming FREE Summer Camp for kids.
But the moment she walked in, she asked why the traffic was backed up. None of us knew that—right across the parking lot—SWAT and DeKalb County Police were evacuating Stonecrest Mall due to a shooting.
We still completed the full interview, but the story was ultimately overshadowed by the incident.
I won’t lie… it was disappointing. It’s hard running a small business in the same community you live in, love, and serve, yet feeling little support at times.
After seeing the coverage, I had a moment where I thought, “Maybe I should throw in the towel and move to a city where the community truly appreciates what Sip & Frost Cake Bar brings.”
But then I remembered why I started this:
To uplift kids.
To create safe, joyful spaces for families.
To build community, not abandon it.
To give underserved youth a chance to shine.
So no—I'm not giving up.
If you believe in what Sip & Frost does, I’m asking for your support.
Whether it’s sharing our story, donating, booking a party, or simply spreading the word — it all makes a difference.
