Let me introduce myself. My name is Nancy Davidson, and I am the individual who has been posting on this page, The Vendors at the Ligonier Farmers Market. I created this page many years ago with my husband, Steve, whom many of you may remember as the pie baker. We were vendors at the Ligonier Farmers Market together until his passing four years ago, and I have continued our venture since then. Altogether, I have been a vendor at the market for more than 13 years.
It was brought to my attention recently, during a Ligonier City Board of Works meeting, that there may be some confusion regarding this page — specifically, that some believe it to be an official city page. I would like to clarify that this page has always been run by me as a vendor and was never intended to represent the City of Ligonier or any official entity.
At this time, I will no longer be posting on this page, as I am no longer a vendor at the Ligonier Farmers Market. I will, however, continue to offer my green beans and vegetables, and those interested can follow Granny’s Farm Stand for updates.
I also feel it is important to share, respectfully and transparently, why I will not be returning to the market. A number of vendors, myself included, feel that we do not currently have a voice. Over the years, I have worked with three different park managers. With the first two, communication was open and concerns were addressed collaboratively. Input was welcomed, and there was a shared goal of improvement. Unfortunately, this has not been my experience more recently.
In an effort to find a constructive solution, I began attending Board of Works meetings. One idea I proposed was for the Community Foundation to oversee the farmers market as it transitions to Station Street, with vendor fees supporting the foundation and benefiting the community as the market grows. This proposal was declined.
This is also the first year a vendor fee has been implemented. I do not object to paying the $100 seasonal fee. My concern is simply wanting those funds to go toward an organization or structure where vendors feel heard and represented.
I share this not to create division, but to provide clarity and to explain my decision. I appreciate the community’s support over the years.
