Thankful Thursday 💛
“I love it, have been going there for decades, one time we arrived just as they were getting ready to close, they fed us anyway, thanks.”
This comment made me stop and smile.
Not because we stayed open a little later, but because this customer has been coming here for decades. It is never lost on us that most small business may not survive one decade, let alone multiple decades!
When you own a family restaurant, you quickly realize that the food is only part of the story. The real story is the people. The families who stop on their way home. The regulars who have watched employees, and even generations of customers grow up.
The people who keep choosing you year after year.
My dad always believed that hospitality wasn't something you turned off because the clock said it was time. If someone walked through the door hungry, he wanted them taken care of. That wasn't a policy. It was just the way it was.
Reading this brought back so many memories of watching him in the early days, when we lived upstairs. He understood that sometimes a meal is more than a meal. Sometimes it's the end of a long drive. Sometimes it's the only chance a family has to sit together that day. Sometimes it's just someone looking for a warm place and a friendly face.
I miss him every day, but I find pieces of him in comments like this. And, in chocolate peanut butter pie.
And I am so grateful.
Grateful for the customers who have been coming for decades. Grateful for the trust you've placed in us. Grateful that when people think about Bingham's, they remember not just the food, but how they were treated.
To everyone who has pulled into our parking lot over the years, whether it was five minutes before closing or first thing in the morning, thank you. Your loyalty has allowed us to keep carrying this tradition forward, and we never take that for granted.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for letting us be part of your story. 💕
