Sweet things to come… Opening 2026

Slated to open in early 2026, Cornflower Baked Goods is the neighborhood bakery that Owner/Chef Megan Garrelts has long envisioned opening. Continuing to showcase the best of the Midwest, this new establishment will feature familiar favorites – cinnamon rolls, pies, and cakes – from Megan’s acclaimed pastry programs at the Kansas City, MO and Leawood, KS locations of Rye, which she co-owns with he

r husband, Colby. The Cornflower menu will extend beyond the traditional bakery case, honoring classic Americana while embracing seasonal ingredients, scratch-made recipes, and refined craftsmanship. In addition to beloved baked goods, offerings will include grab-and-go savory sandwiches, curated coffee from Onyx, canned cocktails, and specialty dessert sauces – making Cornflower a neighborhood destination for both convenience and hospitality. A James Beard Award semifinalist for Outstanding Pastry Chef, Megan’s recipes have appeared in Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, The Wall Street Journal, and Saveur.

Introducing x signature pie collection!

When we developed Cornflower Baked Goods we wanted to include everything local we could on our retail shelves and the first collaboration we knew we had to do was with Christopher Elbow Chocolates!

We can’t wait for you to try our Apple Pie, Cherry Pie, Blueberry Pie and Pecan Pie Bonbons VERY SOON.

Local artist Kelly Porter has designed custom wall coverings for the bakery, bringing beautiful shades of purple and blue to life through her signature hand-painted style and we cannot wait to share them with you!

Kelly’s artwork has long held a special place in the Garrelts family home. One of her pieces hangs in their kitchen, quietly woven into years of everyday moments, celebrations, and memories shared around the table. Bringing her work into the bakery feels especially meaningful, carrying that same sense of warmth, home, and connection into this new space. More than simply a design choice, her art reflects the stories and gathering places that have shaped the Garrelts family’s love for bringing people together through food.
